I keep asking this and no one can tell me the answer. I keep seeing egg prices down but they haven't dropped here in SELA where I live. What's the deal with this? $5.97 for Walmart large this morning.

The trends are typically national averages. Maybe there's still an issue regionally?

Week of March 7th report:

quote:

Negotiated wholesale prices for graded loose eggs continued on a sharp downward trajectory as no significant outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) have been reported in March to date and the supply situation is rapidly improving. Offerings are becoming more available with light demand for mostly moderate supplies and trading. Wholesale prices for national trading of trucklot quantities of graded, loose, White Large shell eggs declined $2.70 to $4.15 per dozen with a sharpy lower undertone. The wholesale price on the New York market for formula trading of Large cartoned shell eggs delivered to retailers declined $2.40 to $4.78 per dozen with a sharply lower undertone. In the major Midwest production region, wholesale prices for Large, white, shell eggs delivered to warehouses decreased $0.95 to $7.47 per dozen with a lower undertone while prices paid to producers for Large cartoned shell eggs were down $0.95 to $7.29 per dozen. The California benchmark for Large shell eggs declined $0,87 to $9.48 per dozen with a lower undertone. Delivered prices on the California-compliant wholesale loose egg market declined $2.54 to $5.04 per dozen with a sharply lower undertone.

Demand for shell eggs declined sharply over the past week as resistance to current shell egg prices grows across all sectors

Interesting how it varies so much per area. Must be the reason.

Those are wholesale prices in that article so there is still a markup when it gets to the store. $5.97 is high, but seems in line with costs after markup.

I think I paid $6.39 for a dozen eggs the other day. New Jersey pricing.

Was really funny watching the Democrats trying to use the egg prices as some kind of gotcha. They are some shortsighted economic tards. Just proved to people how stupid they are they could look just a few weeks how it'll turn.

Not sure what's happening in your area, but it's dropped over a dollar in mine. Still high but going in the right direction.

Even my grandma called me to let me know prices are going down. She may not have the best day to day memory, but I'll be damned the woman will tell me grocery prices on the day I was born. She's like hawk at the grocery.

Your grocery store paid the high price for their current inventory so you’re not seeing the lower cost yet?

When they buy cheaper you don’t pay as much?

I had not bought eggs in close to a month. We do not eat enough eggs to cry in a national forum about it. It is time to bake a few things that require eggs, so I bought a dozen yesterday. I didn't notice how much they were.

Should I have stood in the dairy dept. and wailed, Muh eggs!?

Down to $4.97 today at Walmart. It's finally starting to trickle down.

I eat a lot of eggs. Buy maybe 4 dozen at a time. It adds up.
