Wanting to rent a house at some point durning the summer on one of these lakes to explore it a little.

Leaning towards Caney cause it’s small and no underwater obstructions that aren’t obvious but Toledo has more house options along with needing to learn boat lanes better.

Where would you go given the choice of these 2 lakes with a 15 and 13 year old boys that love to fish. Will be bringing my bass boat but not against hiring a guide also. Thanks

The Bend. Caney is small and gets hammered.

Toledo bend. I prefer a more diverse habitat, and Toledo has everything. You can throw frogs in pads in the morning, flip cypress trees, skip docks, or find something more offshore, if that’s your thing. Especially if you plan on staying a few days. It’s a lot more area to explore.

Go to the bend and try some new stuff. Its damned fun. Just try not to get overwhelmed. The lake is gigantic and it's super easy to spend the entire day boat riding. Wherever you are, there's limitless different terrain and structure to try within a mile or two of where you're sitting.

Anything I try there will be new stuff. We went once back in February and that’s only time I’ve been there.

Its such a fun place to fish. I get frustrated because I go maybe once a year so I generally stink it up, but damn it's fun to bass fish is what is an ocean compared to where I usually bass fish.

Sounds like you never been so I would pick Caney. It's really a smaller safer version of toledo without the stumps. A 10mph wind on toledo and you are stuck in a cove. You can fish any way you want on Caney. Great place to learn offshore fishing. Can bed fish right now, dock fish, find them staging coming and going.

I’ve been once to both but both were quick trips with no time to learn or figure anything out.

Summer - If you go after it gets hot target night fishing, it's awesome.

Tie a Texas Rigged Black worm on and fish around the piers, boathouses with lights. A lot of them have brush piles at the end of the pier.

Dark bank throw a big black spinner bait or black chatter bait.

It's always cooler, less people on the water and the bass bite better at night in the summer.

Toledo Bend would be my choice
