NIT Bid possibility

So Texas and Oklahoma were the “bubble” teams in the SEC. They’re both into the quarterfinals of the SEC tourney. If they both get into the NCAA tourney, we get an NIT bid. Do we accept it?

Not accepting it would be a total embarrassment.
So yeah, I fully expect not to accept it. But then again, its typically an embarrassment when we step on the floor. So either way it sucks.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I thought I heard you have to have a record over .500 to qualify for the NIT.

If 13 SEC teams make the tourney, LSU is in the nit.

That would be the most anti-climactic postseason birth in school history.

One more chance to watch the McMen this season!!!

If we had to decline it and still retain McMahon....what an embarrassment

We would actually need 14 to get in. I believe South Carolina is ahead of us in the relevant metrics. It is not based on standings, but based on an average of certain ratings, including NET, KenPom, and others.
That being said, with Texas‘s win today, the SEC likely gets 14 in.
No, there is no requirement of a .500 or better record.

Why? What’s the rule here?

Because the SEC and ACC negotiated a deal to get two guaranteed spots in the NIT regardless of record.

It actually wouldn’t be an embarrassment at all . Most teams have higher expectations than NIT , and there were numerous teams that declined last year . It gives you a chance to start figuring out your roster for next year and finding out who is coming back and who is not . What’s more embarrassing is having guys know they aren’t coming back and deciding not to play and losing by 30 to a nobody . It’s time to end this season and figure out what next year brings

Are you stupid? I would say so.
