Would it be better to allow the current threads with bottom pins to move up in first page as posts allow? And then fall down as normal with the pin holding them on the first page?

Feel like MSB thread for F1 is dead because of this

When will then be now?

With the notification system, it shouldn't matter where the thread is.

Click the bell to follow the thread!

I don’t pay attention to the bell. Not sure about others, but much more likely to read threads at the top.

Can the bell at least take us to the last page read? When I click on the bell and then on the thread in the notification, it always takes me to posts that are several days old. Then after a few days it'll pick another random post to jump me to.

Bumping. Why does it take me to week old posts in the middle of the thread when I access the thread through the notification link?

Which thread are you talking about?

And are you actively posting in it?

Are you following the thread and are you also getting notifications when you have replies to your own post? those obviously will act differently from each other.

If you are actively participating in the thread, I would not use notifications and I would just use the last page read feature

This is for the F1 thread. I actively participate in it.

I clicked the bell at the top of the thread to give me notifications when someone posts in the thread, not responds to one of my posts.

I'll log on to the site, see the red dot on the notification bell, click on the bell, then click on the thread within the notification page. It will then take me to this post.. After a week or so, it will then take me to a newer post and stay there for another week or so.

eta: In the grand scheme of things, it's a minor inconvenience, but an inconvenience nonetheless.

Brew, I think the follow thread notification is more useful for slower threads or threads that you aren't actively participating in

You should just use the last page read feature

Well, now we're back to the the issue of the thread being pinned at the bottom.

Well, at least you know where it is at all times.

Chicken,

What's the point of a bottom pin? For example, the NBA playoffs round 1 is in full swing. The thread was just fine getting bumped to the top during games while it was active, then falling back between games.

What's the point?

Not to rehash the point, but I think everyone would be happier and it would drive more traffic to allow the pages to rise to the top of the first page as posts happen and then have an anchor for bottom of the first pages for the threads that are currently bottom anchored.

I think it decreases posts and traffic

And I also think it's retarded to have bottom stickied threads

I do not wanna come to the more sports board and see a bunch of season long threads in which the first page is months old...I don't think that's great for traffic

The Russia-Ukraine thread is a good example of it working well. I understand that some are deeply invested in following and discussing it but it was annoying to see that thread floating in the top 10 or so on the OT a year and an half after it started.

And that was just one thread.

that makes sense. Have you considered giving users the ability to pin their favorite threads on each board? Then, you could just anchor the season threads and they'd only appear at the top for people who pin them as their favorites.
