Democrats on tariffs

“That’s not hurting the other country. That’s a tax on the consumer!”
Democrats on higher corporate taxes, minimum wage, etc:
“These businesses need to pay their fair share. This won’t affect consumers at all.”

Meanwhile Republicans are the exact opposite hypocrisy. What's your point other than you're totally partisan?

Joe Biden expanded Trumps tariffs.

The tariffs should be short term, if they’re effective. The goal, ostensibly, is to level the economic playing field with respect to free trade.
If that morphs into something else (which we’ve already seen early smoke on), then it will be more hypocritical.
But the Democrat position on taxing the rich and corporations is not temporary. It’s the only revenue strategy they have.

I can choose to buy American products that are tariff free. I don’t have that option with your way. Everything is higher.

It's likely the raw materials are not 100% made in America.
Large parts of steel and aluminum come from abroad and it would take decades for that to be trued up.

The true irony is that the tariffs and unfair practices were competing against have lowered the prices of goods for americans…to have a functioning healthy efficient economy you must allow prices to return to the unhindered economic normal. This is not a tax but a return to a healthier economy where people produce and purchase based on efficiencies l.

When you have no principles you can be for all things and nothing at all.

One day they'll make sense to you. Probably soon.
Nice to see you tag my name on them, but its pure classic conservative economics. If you were a conservative you would know.

Kind of hurts both but they forget that these other countries declared "war" on us before we did on them. It's a reckoning to be sure.

that and the fact that tariffs arent the destination... they are the journey.
Ideally, they spin off into a trade deal that's not absolutely one-sided, which is largely what we have going on now. You can't claim to be for free trade when the US is the only partner in the contract engaging in such.

I am generally anti-tariff, free trader. I did like what I heard last evening about "reciprocal tariffs". You tax our good 20%, we'll tax yours the same. I don't necessarily think that either tariff is good, but at least it is fair.

Tarrifs are for forcing a change in behavior (Trump's primary usage)
Not for a permanent revenue stream (Canada, EU) or for permanent protectionism for a specific industry (Trump, Canada, EU, Mexico).
The protectionism should only result from the forced behavior change (Trump, Mexico) and thus temporary and conditional on that behavior change.
