Hey all
First time going to Bahamas. My wife and I and a teenage daughter and another couple are going around June for a week. Do you have any tips or have to dos from any of y’all that have been?
We rented a car and looking for a boat rental now.
Any guides for fishing that y’all recommend?
Any tips would be appreciated, thanks GeeMan

Get a car and explore the island--lots of terrain, beaches and blue holes.

Also, Get a boat. If you are not comfortable with a boat, go on a day trip with Exuma Water sports.

If you rent a car, be careful, they drive on left side, and roads are terrible. Take a quick boat taxi to Chat and Chill. You can spend the whole day there. Boat taxix run every hour or so. Swimming with pigs overated. Pigs are nasty and mean.

This should be mandatory for any Bahamas thread. Should be treated like the Nudity rules for NSFW threads.

:Bahamas:

Bahamas trips to the out islands can be the best vacation you’ve ever had. Relaxing, exhilarating, and rejuvenating.

But stay away from the pigs. Swimming with pigs is overrated. They are nasty and mean.

Agree with the chat n chill recommendation. Stocking island is beautiful; recommend renting a boat if you’re comfortable with that; amazing snorkeling in between Exuma and stocking island.

Thanks for the recommendations
We will get a boat for couple days and have car booked
I have no desire to swim with pigs unless I can take one home and cook it
I also do not want to swim with sharks or iguanas
Looking forward to this one

As someone said the roads are beyond terrible, especially if you head out of town toward Santanna's restaurant. Buy some fresh lobsters from the boat landing in town. The restaurants open when they want to, close when they want. Only place that was consistently open was a seafood place where all of the shacks are. Groceries are expensive. Dont get in any hurry for anything, island time is huge there.

Driving on the island isn’t that bad, but yea the roads are terrible the further you go from Georgetown, both ways.

Definitely hit up Chat and Chill and Coconut Club by water taxi.

If you go down to little exuma, be sure to eat lunch at Tropic Breeze. I’ve been multiple times and think it’s the best spot on the island. We have had Chef Kristont cook us several meals at the houses we rented in the past. Look him up on Instagram @tropicbreeze242.

I think a full day boat tour is still my favorite thing to do on the island even after doing it multiple times. Swimming with the pigs needs to be done since your kids will be with you, but also all the other stops. Iguana island, snorkeling, see all the private islands on the way to Compass Cay. Swimming with the nurse sharks at Compass is a must and the last stop of the day. Have the captain make stops at a couple marinas on the way.

Also do low tide at Cocoplum Beach. If you time it right and the weather is calm, it’s an incredible experience. The tide is ankle deep as far as you can walk.

Groceries are expensive, but that is to be expected.

FYI on renting a boat there-

Unlike the soft and forgiving sea bottoms of the Northern Gulf (Texas to NW Fla), there are coral and limestone obstructions around Bahamian islands & reeks that will wreck a boat.

Proceed carefully and at your own peril.

Great advice. I also find that almost every "rentable" boat in the Bahamas is underpowered by 50%.

Not a tip but the infamous Fyre festival was “held” there. The documentary is up on Netflix if you haven’t seen it already.
