Why should someone who doesn’t work and pay taxes get any money whatsoever for a return? This has always bothered the crap out of me. Keep spitting out children, don’t work, get money you didn’t even pay into. I think it is ludicrous. What say you?

Even better, they still get to vote.

For people who will raise taxes.

Because a “tax refund” sounds better than “check for having out of wedlock kids and voting democrat.”

We could go a long way by having the bottom 50% pay income tax. In addition to the revenue, which is more than you'd think, they would have skin in the game and MIGHT, just MIGHT, be a little more responsible when it comes to voting and spending.

the 1040 was never intended to be a welfare application. If you fill out the form correctly, not only do you receive a full tax refund, you can receive thousands that you never contributed.

You'd be surprised how many Trump supporters are in that group, particularly in this state.

This was always weird to me. Back when I graduated college and was working a low wage job for a bit tax season was like Christmas to all the single mom's who worked there and had popped out multiple kids

It was intended to be progressive in that people with less income pay less percentage of tax. You only get refund for paxes paid.

Do you propose some type of worthiness tax that determines which income should be progressive and which should not? And what should the rate be for SSI payments (like disability)? Easier would be reduce the payments if you have heartache with it.

I get it, you don't like people getting free stuff. No different from any reduction in taxes for rich people tho practically.

I know this goes against your sensibilities but if we cut out shite like this and get rid of the waste, fraud, and abuse in the "welfare" system you might be surprise how much the poor people cost us taxpayers...

This is my biggest issue. You should get back what you put in, and not a penny more. The EITC has become a bullshite welfare program.

Ahh, the earned income tax credit.
Work enough to get a W2, and boom thousands of dollars can be yours. Can even file a fake W2 and get more.

There is a reason these tax service companies are in low income areas, promising instant refund check where you can then walk right next door and cash.

The file for you and give you, what, 50-70 cents on the dollar? Then have you cash it next door for a fee.

If caught, Claiming ignorance if there was a fraudulent ID or SS#.

I bet the fraud dollar amount is staggering..

I have a major issue with someone who pays in $x through withholding and receives a “tax refund” that is larger than the $x they had withheld. Or worse, pays nothing in and gets a refund. How is that possible?!?

I think every taxpayer should have to pay something into the system. Even if it’s only $100, they should bear some portion of the burden of paying for government.
