I think they import bauxite and make their own aluminum to spec. This deal sounds like already refined aluminum.

Correct, they have (or had) the mine in Jamaica. That plant has traded hands so many times, it is a mess.

Russia is the second-largest aluminum producer, producing about 5% of the world's aluminum (3.5 million tonnes annually).

By comparison, China represents over 50% of the worldwide aluminum production with about 32 million tons a year.

The output of the USA is about 1.5% of worldwide production.

I’m confused, are there pro china people here?

Also, didn’t we put our blanket 25% steel and aluminum tariffs in order to make it more competitive for American steel/aluminum manufacturers? (It definitely wasn’t to reduce prices of end products)

Seems like Trump is all about American manufacturers unless he can get stuff for cheap from his buddies.

IDK.

We need details on this Russia/aluminum deal. Aluminum comes in a lot of different specifications. If Alcoa is a finisher of Aluminum to specific grades and they now have a cheaper source, I have to imagine it helps their bottom line. But I do not have a full understanding of Alcoa's business.

With that said, the 25% tariff on Chinese aluminum and this potential deal with Russia effectively cock blocks Chinese aluminum. Now I expect the People's Bank of China to respond by printing the RMB to remain competitive which will strengthen the dollar to the RMB effectively lowering the cost of all other Chinese imports.

This will ameliorate the inflationary tariff concerns by Roger and SFP.

The Eric Swalwell crowd is probably elsewhere. Their local anti America rally would be my best guess

China isn't actually producing anything. They are strip mining it from some African nothing country and then railing it to Mainland to process it, then export.

Just the folks that are willing to go to war with people supporting tariffs on Chinese steel and aluminum.
