This isn’t a bitch session, just a personal observation. Many actually bust their asses. As a retired FAA air traffic controller for 37 years we actually did work and could see it take place intinatainously, no in baskets. Working shift work keeping the facilities open 24/7 meant working weekends, nights, holidays, etc. which also meant missing a lot important family time. Some facilities have controllers working 10 hour days, 6 days a week. The OT pay is nice but it doesn’t compensate for the long term effects on your body. The staffing issue has been going on since the 70’s, it didn’t just start.

For me, the job was a lot of fun, with times when you would “pucker-up and hang on” when things went to shite. The pay was good, and the retirement pay is good too.

You could probably say the same thing about other Govt jobs, especially law enforcement, military etc, ICE, Border Patrol, FBI ( the ones that aren’t woke) and others.

The problem I saw was in the Mgmt when the bureaucracy kicked in. That’s why DOGE is good.

The way to trim the fat.. get rid of everybody in shock and awe and rebuild it back up. The real legit ones who are dedicated and loved their jobs will reapply

Not to mention they all get paid for the next seven months

I have yet to hear/read anyone suggest that ALL government employees are worthless/useless.

The issue is that the federal government is bloated. No one should be against getting rid of the bloat.

OT pay must have been nice.

Retired from the service and never got any OT pay.

I did get $8 and change a day for hazardous duty/imminent danger pay though.

My tech school while in the Air Force was at Kessler. Air traffic control school was also at Kessler . Wash out rate was highest of any Air Force AFSC. Those kids were under unbelievable stress.

And he's only got about 17 months to do it, so it's going to have to be done with a chainsaw instead of a scalpel.

One washed out to Keesler. He said different stressors. traffic control while less physical was much more mentally stressful. My school was 1.3 years. I graduated before he did. Not sure how it went for him.

So safe to say that all the traffic controllers work at the airports, not working at home? Have seen several videos of IRS employees complaining that they were being forced to work 5 days in their offices.....or else. One could barely talk she was crying so hard. And with the report last week that 67% of Federal employees having at least a second, part time job, 30% a second, full time job, it's funny, impossible to feel any "compassion". The latest buzz word for libs.

Yup, but once I hit 30 years old I did everything I could to get out of it.

That’s why I only spent 4 years and 1 day in the AF. My pay at Keesler was $148 every 2 weeks back in the 70’s as a no-stripe.

Quit bitching. You got a rack and 3 meals a day at no cost. With midrats you got a 4th in the navy.

ATC in the military is not nearly as stressful as it would be at a large airport.

It's mostly the work at homers that I have a problem with. I'm pretty sure you didn't do your ATC job at home. Neither are most of our soldiers and law enforcement working from home. The rest need to get back to the office or find something else to do. It looks like there will be plenty of openings in the fruit picking industry, house cleaning, and construction business.

Yeah, I was a Passport Specialist with the State Department, the work was neverending. There were people who didn’t meet standards and still had a job, we need DOGE.
