Its the players. They are just unlikeable. They have a complex like the world is out for them and they are better than everyone. Silver said he would make this a players league and it backfired on them.

This is the same critique from the same people for the last 50 years of the NBA.

It has always been a player’s league. The difference is the gameplay.

NBAs problem is that they push individual players too much. Plus style of play and taking half the season off

Other leagues interest is more team oriented.

Agree, a large portion of fans are fans of players and not teams.

NBA has a perception problem and for some reason they allow their broadcast partners to play into it. A real commissioner would've pulled Draymond off the air when he was crapping on allstar weekend while broadcasting it. There's no way in hell the NFL would've allowed that to happen.

It’s a lot of things. Entitlement is a big one. I also think you can blame the owners for being pussies (even though they are billionaires). You think the NFL owners would allow this? Also, it doesn’t help that all the black players think they are still oppressed and every one owes them

Its the front office and TV

They are pimping/squeezing every drop of blood out of aging stars instead of showing/promoting emerging ones. Look at OKC for evidence. Rarely on national TV, they even skipped them Xmas day with best record.

They fun to watch and actually play D. Biggest Net diff in history. Play for each other. Have fun post game interviews together. Most have no clue what they are due to lack of exposure. And thats the problem. SGA likely wins MVP. Coach is likable and engaged. He grew up with them and promoted thru OKC G league. GM is smart.

Edit to add: Oh, and league has ruined All Star game!

Style of play is the biggest problem. There is an easy fix but too extreme for Adam silver to implement I think.

Make the 3 point shot only worth 1 point and dunks 3 points. That would change the game for the better

Everyone pumps David Stern's nads as this great commissioner. He's the one who started the emphasis of player over team in the Association's branding. He planted the seeds that are now coming to harvest where the unlikable inmates are running the unmarketable asylum.

Why would they do this instead of just eliminate it?

And at this point, I believe the NBA has had the 3PT longer than it hasn't. It's going to be hard to just eliminate it and change the game that dramatically.

The problem is that players as so good these days that pushing it back probably won't help. They'd also have to eliminate the corner 3 somehow.

and dunks 3 points.

This would be silly, especially considering that this is such a crucial part of the playstyle that's killing the league already. Rim, 3, and FT are the 3 areas that are most efficient to shoot.

And to get back to OP, the NBA is just at the highest level and most strategic/intelligent/skilled that it's ever been.....and it's boring.

It's an inevitability, because elite players are just worth so much.

Just like it took them decades to understand basic math with the 3PT, they'd have figured out the economic value of stars eventually.

Traveling doesn’t exist, carrying doesn’t exist, breath on a player and it’s a foul. That’s the start of it. Then it get to how nobody plays defense and all players want to do is shoot deep shots. The game is just bad.

Are these "stars" really worth that much? NBA ratings are, to be kind, stagnant. Why are owners paying max value for players who don't bring any extra eyeballs to the brand, if not outright alienating fans?

The NBA has a lot of problems.

1) The best part of the NBA is the drama related to trades, free agency and the draft.
2) The style of play is hard to watch. Jacking up 3s and no defense isn’t good to watch.
3) The players aren’t likable. They make tons of money, but load manage and are just going through the motions until the playoffs. You have guys like Ben Simmons who is more interested in fashion week than practice. Jimmy Butler throwing tantrums publicly. Zion who can’t get in shape. Draymon Green who is punching teammates. Luka who is throws tantrums at referees.
4) There are no American players that are currently worth pulling for or being pushed as the face of the league.
5) The lack of effort by the players is terrible.
6) The league pushes big market teams. OKC and the Bucks and some other teams can win. But you only hear about the Lakers and Celtics and Heat, etc.
7) The young stars like SGA and Anthony Edwards aren’t being pushed as the face of the NBA. Instead you only hear about LBJ and Kevin Durant and Steph who are getting old.
8) The players like each other too much. Magic and Bird were a great rivalry. The Bad Boys of the NBA vs. everyone and Jordan. Shaq trying to break through with the Magic. You don’t see any of that anymore.
9) Players aren’t loyal. They chase money and rings. How many teams have LBJ and Durant moved to to chase rings. James builds a team quickly that fricks a team long term then moves on to another team when things get tough. Golden State has mostly stayed together, but contracts make building dynasties and keeping players hard. It’s a lot of mercenaries instead of teams.

The atmosphere sucks.

We tried a few times at the mcneese games here. Pregame music blaring in is terrible.

The breaks playing garbage.

Not exactly a family type atmosphere to encourage you to bring your kids and wife. Looking at the crowd and who pays the gate you'd think they would mix it up a bit.

Place is gorgeous but they've taken to a culture and are now so entrenched they may need a huge correction.

On the other hand baseball games there are a nice mix and the kids and wife look really forward to going.

Not to mention the massive expense of professional sports attendance in general. We enjoy the Astros and are a couple hours away and I've still never been to see them in their park since they moved from the astrodome.

Every game is 3 point contest or dunk. It’s boring. No real play just street ball.
