Holly's trial will begin July 7 in Farmerville, his attorney Mike Small told The Advocate after a hearing Wednesday. He faces one felony count of illegal use of a weapon or dangerous instrumentality.

Small said Holly will continue to plead not guilty, and he "fully expects" the case to proceed to a jury trial.

This has taken a long time to get to trial. Looks like hi lawyers did well to get the charges reduced to that one felony.

July 7th seems so long , kid is going to miss spring ball again . Glad a trial date is set but I think the DA doesn’t have a good case against him

Does all this missed time count against his eligibility?

Can't wait to see the size of the civil rights lawsuit if the charges are ultimately dropped or he's found not guilty. How much NIL has he lost, not to mention possibly an NFL career?

I don't know the answer to this. I imagine if he's still enrolled at LSU, he's using up remaining eligibility. It's not an NCAA issue, he just not in good standing on the team.

Have they ever given an update on the other suspects (wasn’t one of them his younger brother) from that night? What are their charges?
Just curious about what the full picture is

Here is how it is supposed to work.
The day he enrolled at LSU his 5 to play 4 starts. If he would have gone to a school that did not offer football. He would have not lost any time. But the clock starts the day he enrolled. He can't even go to Delgado where they have no football team. Once he enrolled at LSU 5 to play 4.

Let me give another example. If I was a biology major and I did not play football. But I enrolled at a school that offered football. Like LSU, even though I do not play. After 5 years at LSU I become the greatest football player to live. I can not play college football because I would have no eligibility left. Your clock starts at the time you enroll.

But, now anyone can sue and get all the rules thrown out.

18 months from incident to trial in a murder trial is not long AT ALL.

It’s routine for trial to be more than year, sometimes several years after the event.

Agree, but this isn’t a murder trial. The only thing he is indicted on is the one firearm charge. Seems long to me, but I realize these kinds of things vary from place to place. I have no idea what the norm is for this parish.

Good point. I was thinking false arrest, if he just got railroaded without probable cause.

Probable cause is not a very high standard.

Getting a jury trial date less than 4 months from a hearing to set said trial date is actually pretty quick. I just set a trial on January 2nd and couldn’t get set until September and as of now, third quarter dates are full already. And my case has been pending almost 2 years already. The judicial system is not quick.

Yeah and Mike is in no hurry. He has a wounded victim that is going to point right at his client at the trial.

If there were better facts this would have been over (plea or trial) a long time ago

This has taken a long time to get to trial.

not really based on the chronological history and how the legal system works:
2/9/24 - shooting in Farmerville.
2/15/24 - Holly turns himself in. Arrested on 3 charges: attempted 2nd degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, and aggravated criminal damage to property.
4/5/24 - Grand Jury rejects attempted murder charge
9/19/24 - new evidence submitted, hearing set for 12/18/24.
12/18/24 - more evidence submitted at hearing. Status conf. set for 2/19/25.
2/19/25 - trial set for July 2025 .... Holly only facing 1 charge: felony count of illegal use of a weapon or dangerous instrumentality.
