Who is next Luka , trade salary wise?

We are getting into the 60-80 million per year contracts. If we are to believe Mavs didn’t wanna shell out $350 million to a generational talent in Luka. Who is next with the apron being very prohibitive?
Maybe Young? Don’t think he is eligible for Mavs Luka numbers, but will Hawks not winning chip with him, do they wanna hand him another big, long term deal…

Trae being traded was always likely. The Hawks haven’t been able to put a team around him that works since they went to the Finals and they don’t have many assets for bringing in more of them.
Only reason it likely didn’t happen before now is that San Antonio owns their pick this year IIRC.

Difference there is Trey sucks and Luka may be the best player in the league in 3 years.
I still just stop what I’m doing and think how the frick this trade happened several times a week. Insane

I love that the Mavs shipped that lazy fat frick off and prevented his super max deal. Hopefully it sent a message to the rest of the league.
I’ve never seen a less likable player than Luka. Watching him up close live gives you a real appreciation for how big of a pussy and how soft he really is.

90%+ of mavs fans disagree with you
Have fun with Anthony “day to” Davis

It delayed the max two seasons, which he’ll get. It did nothing financially to Luka other than taxes I guess

You’re wrong, but that’s on brand for you.
Doncic was eligible to sign a five-year, $345 million supermax contract extension with the Mavericks this offseason, which would have been the largest contract in NBA history. The current title of biggest contract goes to Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum with a five-year, $315 million deal.
Now that the 25-year-old ex-Mavericks star is with the Lakers, Tatum will hold his title even longer. The largest extension Doncic can ink this summer in LA is a five-year, $229 million contract, which The Athletic's John Hollinger broke down.
"As for attracting future talent to the Lakers, that’s easier with Doncic because the Lakers will actually have him at a discount," Hollinger wrote. "He is no longer eligible to sign a gargantuan supermax this summer and can only extend for 30 percent of the cap beginning in 2026-27. (He can sign this summer, but the first year of the new money comes in 2026-27.)"
Hollinger then went on to explain the most likely deal Doncic will sign with the Lakers, writing, "It seems likely that Doncic will sign a shorter extension this summer with a player option in 2028, which would allow him to re-sign after his 10th year of service, in the summer of 2028, for the full 35 percent of the cap."
"If so, that effectively gives the Lakers roughly $8 million in extra cap wiggle room in the summers of 2026 and 2027 relative to what they would have paid Davis … right as James is likely gliding off into retirement," Hollinger concluded.
Doncic reportedly isn't returning the texts or calls from Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison, and it's safe to assume being the reason he will miss out on at least $116 million is partially to blame.

He can sign a 2+1 deal with the Lakers after this contract and then is eligible for the supermax again. So he’ll opt out of the player option after year 2 and resign for the supermax.
Want to clear that up for me?
Thanks for posting those quotes that say exactly what I did. This is what you said, which is unequivocally false:

off and prevented his super max deal.

Ja Morant could be next imo. His off the court crap combined with what his salary will command.

He lost money he would have made the years he doesn't have that supermax.
Is it that hard to understand

But it didn’t prevent the supermax. It delayed it 2 season. And if you believe guys like Bobby Marks, the money ends up being the same with the cap increases over those two years.
So he loses 5% in 27 and 28, but gets 35% of a higher cap after so the total money over 7 years is the same.

I forgot, you’re a literalist who can’t take anything at face value because being wrong on the internet invalidates you because you have little man’s disease.
But since we are playing that game… They did prevent him from getting his supermax deal that he was going to be eligible for in a few months. I never said they prevented him from ever getting it. They cost him >$100MM in earnings in doing so.

In aggregate, this is seemingly not true. According to former executives who are cap experts.

I missed the detailed explanation where you provided the math behind this reasoning. This is math, not theology.

Signs 30% extension for 2+1
Signs 35% supermax after the two years. The projected cap increases make up most of the delta in the delay of the supermax over the full 7 year period
That’s the long and short of it. There’s hours upon hours of content of this you can find published in the wake of the trade.

Yeah, if you fact in a 10% CAGR for the cap, and you model it out, he’s probably closer to $6-10MM lost at the end, and that’s with a lot of assumptions and hypotheticals.
What isn’t factored into that is that had he stayed in Dallas, that $345MM was fully guaranteed, > $100MM of that guarantee is gone and now contingent upon his ability to maintain his level of play and not be injured or a fat slob. He will also receive that money later in life, and given time value of money, he will lose out more with his delayed collection of money, assuming he gets it, which is no longer a guarantee.
They fricked him hard.

Young and Ja are the top 2 candidates.
In a league where 36 year old Jimmy Butler is going to get 60.5 million a year, not paying Luka simply makes Dallas look like a poverty franchise. Most franchises will probably want to avoid that stigma.

SGA will have a SM coming. But he might give a discount.

Report: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander leaves Wasserman, to represent himself as agent
quote:
"I was just informed by league sources that Oklahoma City Thunder superstar guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has parted ways with his representations. He will act as his own agent to represent himself for all on-court matters," Haynes said. "As it pertains to marketing and all off-the-court ventures, I'm told Simon G of I Love Management will still be on task for that."
quote:
Gilgeous-Alexander was previously represented by Wasserman. The shocking decision comes months before he'll be eligible to sign a four-year, $294.3 million supermax extension that could keep him in OKC until the 2030-31 season. He's currently under contract through the 2026-27 season.
