I never did this before. Bought off the shelf or used. In the fall I had a stealth driver that broke, literally. The face came apart. I ordered a used g425 driver. It was ok. Want the longest but it was good in the fairway. Last lesson I took was about 12 years ago but in a decent player now so never felt like I needed too. I decided to take lessons from someone who’s also a club fitter. My swing speed has gone down but I chalked it up to being 40. Anyways as my speed has changed over the last month my swing speed has gone up. But I noticed I’m swinging my driver the same speed as my 5 wood. My coach took my driver and said it’s been cut short and the weight on the back is way too big. It’s not original. Swung a g440 and gained 15mph. Carrying it about 50 yards more. He said I understand buying used and saving money but you never know what someone has done to that club. I hit other drivers but the ping G440 LST was far and away my favorite. I also ordered the 3 wood. Which carries a good bit more than my current driver. Now I’ll never buy another club without getting fit.

Driver is absolutely the number one club that everyone should be getting fitted for. The shaft in your driver has the biggest impact on your swing of any other shaft. I would definitely not advise anyone to play a driver that they weren't fitted for.

Irons are a little easier to play off the rack, but the better your swing gets, the more you are going to want to get fitted for those too. Once you kind of figure out what shot shape and ball flight you want to play, you need to get shafts, heads, and loft/lie/length adjustments that will help you achieve that. Good thing about most irons too is that your current set can be bent and/or cut.

I'm at a point now where with my driver swing speed (110), I'm playing iron shafts that are probably way too light (around 100g). Thinking I need 120g range shafts since I'm pulling and hooking the piss out of everything. Since I'm a shorter guy, probably need a slightly flatter lie angle too to help with that left miss.

I play a push draw and right now with my irons is more often a hook than not.

This year I’ll finally get fitted for a driver. I’ve spent money on fittings for multiple iron sets, wedges, hybrids and my LAB Putter. I have a slow swing speed so I’m waiting for the new Ventus Velicore White driver shaft to come available for fittings. Who knows what I’ll be fitted into but I’m open to anything that gets me some much needed distance. I usually hit the majority of fairways but my lack of distance off the tee is killing my game. I’m currently only averaging 240ish total distance. I’d be ecstatic for another 20+ Yards off the tee. My old Taylormade Sim 2 Max broke and I bought a used first gen Stealth.

My advice is to go throw that Stealth in the trash and find another SIM or SIM2. The original Stealth is probably the worst driver from a major manufacturer in the last 5-7 years. They've since fixed those issues with the Qi10 and now Qi35, but even the 2 SIMs are way better than the OG Stealth.

I’ve heard the same things about the original stealth.. I’m open to any manufacturer when I get fitted. Just hoping to gain some distance off the tee

… and you may! I find the biggest advantage to getting fit is not distance, but reigning in the dispersion numbers. Probably not a realistic expectation, but the distances on new clubs was a little disappointing. Was hoping for extra 5-10 yards, but only slight gains in distance. My dispersion numbers improved a bunch, especially with driver.
Your results may vary! :D

I was swinging my stealth around 107 mph. It broke and I got the used ping G425 max right around the time I put the clubs up for hunting season. Took lessons and while I could control my ball flight I was doing way too much with my wrist. We have been working on that and I’ve gained a good bit of speed. 7 iron went from 87 to 92-93. I was swinging my G425 around 101 mph. But I’m swinging the G440 115-116 mph. Getting into a driver that fit me was a big step. When I’d try to really get after it with my current driver it wouldn’t all wonky. If you haven’t had lessons that would be your biggest gain. The new driver is helping so much because the one I have is all jacked up. Not only am I swinging a good bit faster but it feels like I’m putting a lot less effort into my swing. Amazing the difference it makes when you really dial in your swing.

I've never been fit for a club and I consistently outdrive people who have been. It's taken me hours of research and a few tinkering adventures to get here, but for me, that's part of the fun and excitement. The biggest thing is figuring out what flex you like and what bend (EI) profile you like, and then it's pretty easy to narrow it down from there.

I think fittings are great for some items in the bag, but I've had 2 buddies get fit for drivers only to go back to the "stock" option because it was more consistent over the course of multiple rounds.

I did this, and it was fun, but I wouldn't do this for an entire bag or just a driver unless you've already got at least one professionally fitted club as a reference point. I tested a hand full of different driver shafts myself, ended up getting fitted anyway, and the shaft I was fitted for was a completely different profile than what I was trying.

I also found iron shafts myself and am still pleased with my decision after a few years.

I don’t know man. When I swung the Ping it just felt different than all the others. It felt by the far the best in transition. All the others felt very similar but this one was just a great match for me. And the numbers showed that. I’m glad I swung them all.
