That is going to change the dynamic and plot. I always thought the lawyer was trying to protect the female rape victim in the original trial and then his wife and daughter become potential victims. Will they even be on the Cape Fear River in the final act?

An article I read said both Amy and her husband will play attorneys.

Yes it changes the whole dynamic completely. Many stories the relationships, feelings, and motivations of the characters towards each other is heavily influenced by the genders of those involved.
There's for example the subplot of when Cady abuses the lawyers mistress.
They either don't consider this or don't care when they do these gender swaps.
And I don't even think these gender swaps are done out of politics anymore. I think they are mostly just laziness. They have to try to justify the projects existence. There's absolutely no reason the world needs or wants another Cape Fear movie. So it's just a lazy way to change something and pretend like it's not just a rehash.
