Could your wife or girlfriend solve this?

I hope so. Otherwise I’ll never know the answer.

I suppose there was a time when I could solve it. That time has long passed. I haven't done math outside of basic addition and subtraction in a decade-plus

I generally know that a square is the same on all sides so both sides of what missing are the same. You’d also use the Pythagorean theorem to solve it, but I don’t know that my answer would be right.
I haven’t done shite like this since I took the GMAT as I have zero use for this kind of math in my career. I disagree with the premise

Probably should wait and not send this on Valentine’s Day, though!

The answer is 100 (20 x 5), but it brings up a good point about our education system. This is basio 6th-7th grade level elementary geometry, and there's a lot of educated people that can't do it.

Our population is in a nosedive from a reproductive standpoint and you want guys to give prospective mothers a geometry exam before spraying their guts?!?

Dumbass statement

There's no indication that the square sides are half of the sides of the triangle.

Law of cosines could solve this but I need info on 2 of the angles or know the length of two of the sides.
Someone got 100, would like to see their work.

I disagree. Something is amiss on how our education system is functioning.
I read something recently about two questions to determine IQ
If you can't answer 48 x 2 without a calculator, your IQ is likely to be less than 80.
The question to determine that your IQ is more than 115 is this:
You and I are in a race. I am in second place and you pass me. What place are you in?
Most people immediately say first because most people are average. The correct answer is second.

Triangle area - grey area = green area
What else you got?

There’s literally nothing in your life as a grown up that will require you to know this unless you intentionally choose a job or task that requires you to know this.
There’s also a device in your hand that can solve this or teach you how to solve it.
This is some stupid person who thinks he’s superior because he remembers something most people don’t.
I could literally ask him to name 20 starting QBs in the NFL and claim he’s stupid if he can’t. What’s the difference? It’s irrelevant information.

X and Y have to be equal. There’s enough information

Why, cause it involves talking with a female?

Nobody can solve that without making assumptions.
