Besides TD, where do you get your advice or do research for stocks and funds to buy? I don’t invest much in stocks but am looking to start doing that with a small portion of my portfolio. TIA.

Usually it takes years of being familiar with the markets and reading about stocks.
Reddit subreddits, Tigerdroppings, StockTwits, Seeking Alpha, Motley Fool, After Hour app, etc.

You get out what you put in.

I look at the top ten winners and losers in the S&P each day. See if there's a dip for no good reason, meaning a good stock is on sale.

Finvix stock screener is another one.

Is Motley Fool worth the price? They sent me an email for “half price” the other day and I was about to pull the trigger. And I have wasted more money on much dumber things in my life.

To the OP, I an extreme novice when it comes to stocks. I treat it like betting on a ball game. Bet on the consensus of many people. Friends, TD, YT, etc. Problem is that by the time you find a consensus on stocks, it is often too late.

How do you distinguish which pay services are the best? You can’t subscribe to all of them. You see a lot of people dump on motley fool, but I am sure they still have a strong following. I would bet these service all have mixed reviews. Nobody is going to bat 1.0000.

All the pay wall sites are no better than what you can get for free from reddit, here, their free articles, mimicking Nancy Pelosi stock portfolio. NP always has amazing returns. Also when starting I started with every article about buffet and his advice

In addition to Buffet, Peter Lynch wrote a book in the 90's titled 'One up on Wall Street" that I thought was pretty helpful.

There are several good monthly magazines, with Kiplinger being one.

I like the early morning tv show, Squawk Box.

I don't try to be an expert stock picker, but try to stay informed about the economy.and the market.

I watch squawk Bo’s every morning too. I like getting information on a variety of sectors and hearing from CEOs from different industries.

At the end of the day you have to do your own analysis. Look at the PE ratio, debt to asset ratio, recent performance, profits going up or down. Also qualitative analysis (are they the type of business with reliable future demand, is there something that might displace them, etc).

Stock screeners and daily winners/losers, or TD posts, will just narrow it down and tell you where to look.

ETA: he talks a lot about terminology and current events in terms of the stock market. Best part is hes not full of shite and trying to pump his stocks. He doesn’t even really give tips. But he talks a lot about the stock market in a general sense.
