Does Jelani Watkins return as a WR after his success in T&F?

We can use another burner at WR

Where would he go
It seems like he could be a threat to focus only on Track and field with the times he turned in

If we have a logjam of more natural, but “slower” wr and he has less of a path, I’d like to see him try kick returns to get on the field.
But even then, zavion is already there.

Yeah especially in NIL era, he is better off getting paid to play football

WR coach to the head coach: I would put him in but he doesn't know the plays.
Head coach: Teach him one fricking play, you figure out what that is.

I got to listen to Shaver talk about NIL and dual athletes. Here's the sparknotes from awhile back.
NIL: LSU doesn't give a single dollar to T&F, nor are there fundraising options directly to the program. Athletes are getting their own deals and almost entirely on performance, which means you have to be in the top of the top to get any types of deals. Alia and Squirrel were some of the only ones to get decent deals last year because of Gordon and I believe a few other donors. Alia qualified for 2022 World Championships and made the semis. Squirrel won the NCAA Outdoor 400mh title with the 4th fastest time in the WORLD in 2021 (at the time, it finished at 7th.) That is the type of talent you need to get good money.
Football & Track - Shaver spoke about when Saban wad coaching how it was a bit easier back then. Saban said "If your guys can score at Nationals, keep them." After talking to CBK, he was told some of the football guys who run track should be coming after football season. I think Durham is going to drop track since his injury isn't something he can train on and he will likely need to bulk up for football. Jelani probably won't see the field next year barring any crazy uptick in football performance. He will probably be in contention to score at SECs in both indoor/outdoor and be put into relay events.
Given what i know about both of these realms, if Jelani isn't going to be a full fledged starter, he will do track at least until his junior year. The money isn't there for his current speed, he hasn't made it into a starting WR role, and we already have a transfer All-American punter here.

Don’t forget, 5KO returns for TDs from Barion Brown (sp?)

I have no idea, but is he elite level? Is he the top 2-3 in the world at his events? If so that’s impressive.

I knew there was someone else.

Most people don’t know this but Barion Brown currently leads the SEC in kickoff returns for tds all time. I think I read it was 5.
I’d expect him to take kickoffs backs with Zavion or take his spot entirely.
Also the Kentucky record-holder for kickoff return average for a career (30.33) and season (36.0 in 2023)

He joined on a football scholarship which if I remember correctly has to remain his main sport.

Yea, comparatively, there is no money in track.

Keep seeking brotha!! May need to look elsewhere. He’s on football scholarship so….
Seriously though, I thinks it’s wayyy to early at this point to discuss. He prob does both for at least another year before any talks.
