I thought it was dumb of the last administration to gift 175 billion tax payer dollars with zero ROI.

I did the math and there is no way that Ukraine has 500 billion dollars of rare earths....they are pretty rare and do not exist everywhere.....IMO.
I hope I am wrong, but TRUMPs economists need to fact-check that value!

I saw a report that it is estimated they have $36 trillion in minerals.. or did before the invasion, and it is estimated that Russia now has 40% of that number.. so about $19-20 left.
If true, that would mean he is giving used about 2.5% of what is left to pay us back, which also probably comes with our protection.
