My daughter (no pics) is graduating this year from LSMSA. She will graduate with an Associate's degree. For college she is considering Pre-Med. Northwestern State has offered her a full ride and all of her LSMSA dual enrollment classes with transfer there. She is also considering Centenary. This will cost about 12k per year. Not sure which classes will transfer.

So O.T., anyone have good/ bad experiences at either college? Opinions on if paying the 12k a year is worth it? Or take the free ride from NSU?

Harvard on the Bayou has a 95% acceptance rate to med school. Thats what the recruiters told my daughter last year when she considering pre med at Nicholls.

She can be a Gent now.

Her pronouns can be shizzle, shizzler, shizzilean.

She's a Republican, even after 3 years at LSMSA. Got lucky. So not worried about pronouns.

I don’t know how Centenary does it. Most small liberal arts colleges are really struggling and shutting down, but Centenary seems to be turning it around, and they are pouring millions and millions into upgrading their facilities.

Also, their graduates have a very high acceptance rate into medical schools, which is an important factor if she’s going pre-med.

I wouldn’t go to either if I wanted to go to med school. If she is serious and can actually get in, cost shouldn’t be that big of a consideration. Resources are going to be limited at both of those

So just don't go to those colleges. Got it. Any recommendations?

In Louisiana, I’d go to Tech, LSU, or Ooh LaLa over the two you listed. Staying in state seemingly will limit good med school options for a several factors. I’m friends with 15+ physicians from either high school and college, every one of them went to LSU Med. that’s where most of them wanted to go anyway, but they didn’t get accepted that many other places either

Depends on your location.

I would second Nicholls for a premed route. But if you’re in Northwest LA, you would be a little closer to her for emergencies.

If you’re in SELA, Nicholls would be a good choice. Close-by and less hassle than the big L or any New Orleans school options.

At one time Centenary graduates had a nealy 100% med school acceptance rate. IDK if thats still true. Its a tiny school. That can be good or bad, depending on the person. I knew two sisters that went there. One loved it, one ended up transferring to LSU.

I’d say the biggest advantage to Centenary is its proximity to LSU-Shreveport medical school. It will make it easier for her to shadow, volunteer, and partake in the summer research programs there.

I recently graduated from LSUS medical school. Out of 150 people, we had 4 from Centenary & 0 from NW. Majority of people went to LSU, followed by UL, then Tulane.

Biggest thing for medical school is MCAT, though. I don’t think it matters too much where you go to undergrad as long as your MCAT score is good.

Unless she wants to go to an elite out of state school, I don’t think it matters where she goes to undergrad.

There are some very wealthy alumni from Centenary in the Shreveport-Bossier area. It has always had solid alumni support.

In a sense, yes, but do you not agree that certain schools will do a better job of preparing you for the application process (including the MCAT)? There’s a reason some schools have a higher average MCAT score and acceptance rate

Centenary might not be for her then.
