Have a wedding to go to in Boulder in May. Will be there for a few days. Need a place to stay in Denver the night before I come home. What is the best area to stay for restaurants and grabbing a drink?

For Downtown we stayed at The Maven. Loved it. Has small food hall, free drinks in evening. People really nice and helpful.

My go to when I worked there was the Renaissance Denver Downtown City Center. In an old bank building, nice lobby area with a good bar and the hotel restaurant is good as well.

Were there a ton of homeless around The Maven the whole time?

Going in August and all I keep hearing is how bad the issue is in LoDo.

I live south of Denver and used to work downtown. The city pretty much won’t let the homeless have camps in the downtown area south of 20th, east of Wynkoop, north of 14th, and west of Tremont. You’ll have addicts passing through but they don’t get to setup shop inside this square. Get out of the square to the north(except River North area) or east and you’ll get to see the Denver everyone tells you about.

Something in RiNo is always a solid choice. Can also do a hotel around Union Station, which makes it easy to walk across Commons and/or Confluence Parks to get to the Highlands.

Absolutely not.

LoHi (Lower Highlands) is where you want to be for that. RiNo (River North) is still up and coming.

Wait, what? OP is looking for food and drink, so why not RiNo? It's loaded with restaurants, breweries, and bars. shite, places like the Central Market, Number 38 and Improper City perfectly fit what he's looking for. Hell, add Finn's Manor with its food trucks. Couple of my favorite restaurants, Hop Alley and Work & Class, are right in the neighborhood, as well. Core RiNo is completely fine and chalked with crowded bars and restaurants every weekend.

LoHi / Highlands are great (which I indirectly acknowledged), of course, but much prefer to stay near Union Station and give yourself the flexibility to be in Ballpark or walk across the parks to LoHi.

ETA: Moot, anyway, since OP posted in February.

Maybe it's changed in the last year or two but when I was there RiNo had some cool spots but was riddled with old, run down warehouses and abandoned lots. It's a cool place to go and visit but between that and the massive BNSF railyard I wouldn't want to stay there.

For the record we had a place near Union Station and Confluence Park for a few years and still visit often.
