Nayib Bukele (El Salvador)

Seeing what he’s done in El Salvador to make it safe for the people has been nothing short of impressive. But he is also a dictator.
Watching him interact with Marco Rubio here, he also seems like a genuine good guy. I’m mostly thinking aloud here trying to reconcile a good guy who is a dictator and has also done incredible things for his people.
I grew up being taught democracy is the ultimate good in governing but I think freedom is actually the ultimate good now.

Marco seems like a great choice for his role

I just couldn't help it.
quote:
He also praised his party's performance in the legislative election, which he credited with winning at least 58 out of the 60 seats in the National Assembly: "This will be the first time where one sole party rules a country in a completely democratic system. We pulverised all of the opposition [in the polls]."
Bukele re-elected in LANDSLIDE!!

I agree. Marco has also grown over his years in office. The ability to change your mind can be a superpower.

2016 Rubio was Obama-lite.
He definitely changed for the better since then

Just because he is a "dictator", doesn't mean he's not a god fearing man.
He may be in that role for a reason

That’s basically my point and the idea that I’m coming around to.

A handyman I use is from El Salvador and goes back yearly to see family. He is very happy with Bukele getting rid of gang tyranny that terrorized and extorted most people in the country.

The “benevolent dictator” usually develops paranoia and just becomes the Dictator.

Ya - that’s the absolute power corrupts absolutely angle. It would take an extraordinary figure to handle it.

Ummm dude, he was elected. HE IS NOT A DICTATOR!

DJT is making central and South America a central focus.

Well well well
If you got to this place in your mind organically, then you are ripe for neo reactionary thought.
Read some Curtis Yarvin, Hans Herman Hoppe, James Burnham. Listen to podcasts by Auron MacIntyre, Academic Agent, and The Distributist.
Democracy is not only not the ultimate good, but is arguably the source of most our our society’s ills.
Your statement on freedom is compelling. Something else for you to think about: freedom means different things to different people. Individual liberty without restraint at all costs is a prison and enslavement in of itself.

Huey Long was a dictator but was good for the state.
The term is Benevolent Dictator

Cool...so now all the El Salvadoran refugees no longer need "asylum" and be returned home.
Win.

You don't seem like a board retard so I ask in good faith, how is Bukele a dictator?

Dictators, or monarchs, who have lifetime appointments can be more positive than democratic institutions for a variety of reasons.
Primarily because they have a true stake in the country, because it must flourish for them to leave a good situation for their children and not cause the people to revolt. They are not interested in quick fixes before their term is up and kicking the can down the road. The incentives for absolute rule by the individual provide an environment with a higher ceiling for human flourishing than in a democracy.
The downsides are obvious in the event of getting a bad king/dictator. I think the frequency of that trope in the real world is overplayed though, and they tend to flame out quickly because of the negativity they build up.
