Why would they? Everyone knew McCarthy was getting canned. Why tempt Jerry into keeping him long enough to make the Saints give the Cowboys compensation in exchange for McCarthy if they wanted him?

They didn’t. Until the football world showed them how undesirable our HC position is. It’s like the barely attractive 4 who thinks she’s an 8, passes up 6’s hoping for a 10 & ends up with a 3. And copes by saying that’s what she wanted all along (which will happen here once someone is hired)

No doubt, once Rizzi is hired they’ll say they were for the tank for Arch all along while we get our cap in order.
The pumpers are really season tickets holders. Nobody likes to admit they waste thousands of dollars on a pathetic product, so they cope by spinning and tricking themselves into any positive nugget to justify their horrible investment.
