Let Talk about the Running Back room

How does it play out and do we have the right types of back to make a real championship run.
Kaleb Jackson at present weight and production to this point is not good enough. Caden and the freshman are all on the light side.
I think we should add one more back.
I like TJ Harden from UCLA. Good size and runs with power. We need a banger to complement the rest of the room.

You say we have one guy who is big, but then say we don’t have anyone who is big….

Put Jackson in a single back or pistol formation and he probably sees the field better. This line up next to the QB every play offense seems to limit the running game.

I think we should add one more, but we still have more pressing concerns. I would like an experienced tackle, then another experienced safety, then an experienced running back. I made sure to put experienced at all of those positions because I think we can go with what we have and I honestly think that on paper, this is a very likely playoff team. What would take this from likely playoff team to solid playoff team and probable national championship contender are those three positions above upgraded with added experience.
ETA: that's just personnel wise. There are a few scheme things that need to be fixed that I'm sure the coaches will be looking into and working on.
1. QB contain- this will probably work itself out just on an upgrade in talent alone.
2.Running game- i don't think this was personnel, and I don't think it was the position coach. It either has to be strength and conditioning or blocking scheme.
3. Red zone issues- probably a little bit of talent issues, but play calling is also to blame here, I think.
4. STRENGTH and conditioning- Self explanatory.
5. Special teams- self explanatory, although better than it has been, not without head scratching issues still.

Yep, for a power back, lining up behind the QB is better I think. Get the ball to him deeper and moving forward. He can make the cuts.

as long as we can block well enough to keep him from getting hit prior to reaching the los.

The offensive line play this year was kryptonite for a player like Jackson. He needs a hole. He needs to go vertically not horizontally. The line did him no favors. The smaller backs were more effective bc they could more easily change directions after getting the handoff. I’m not saying Jackson is an all American, but he is better than he showed this year. I am in agreement that he could stand to lose a few lbs to increase his quickness.

definttely need to get KJ in the open field such as screen plays. His speed and strength are necessary

It’s OV for Jackson unless he develops some type of vision.

LSU needs an experienced RB. If Durham gets hurt all we have is KJ who has regressed and two great backs but no experience at all. JW leaving takes away a back that can get you the tough yards. CBK needs at least one proven RB.

If Harlem Berry is as good as advertised, he should be a factor. RB is the position you can most easily step in and play early.
I dont know much about his style, is he a scat-back?

Berry shines in space and out on the perimeter. He's not a bruiser or somebody you can bank on putting his head down and getting those tough yards between the tackles.

Every time I think about the offense somehow I forget about a dude I’ve been drooling over since watching his freshman highlights.

So if Emery doesn’t come back we have 5 RBs, and 2 are freshmen. Only 1 proven back, imo.
I would say get a good running back from the portal, if possible.

Kaleb Jackson is Ray Charles son. Lindsey is not an early enrollee, Berry is a RB, but a freshman.
Durham goes down in the Clemson game and??*
*Dont say Trey Holly", not happening,

I think Jackson is a good back.....he was misused, IMO......and had ZERO run blocking.

That’s exactly what I’m worried about.
Maybe they are serious about Kanin Johnson but I’d prefer a 215-220 pound rb with solid production at his previous school. A senior in his last year of eligibility to lead the room.

We would bring in KJ, but I’m not comfortable with that.
