It sucks to me that ND looks like they finally turned the corner with Kelly gone and now LSU looks like ND the past decade. Yes, Brian Kelly built ND football and built it back into what it is today. But how many TRULY big, end of season games did he win? In my four years at ND (2018-2022), it felt like ND was always in the hunt but never truly built to contend. Meanwhile LSU was out there winning the natty with Coach O. Now I’m watching ND finally make it back to the biggest stage in football and LSU lives in the same “good but not great” land that I’m so used to seeing ND live in. It makes me wonder…

Is it Kelly? Does he know how go lay the foundation of a program but struggle to build a true behemoth? How has Marcus Freeman (who’s introductory press conference I attended with the band and remember thinking “hope our backup hiring option turns out to be good”) had so much success and so many big wins in year 3 than BK has had in like, the last decade? The ND half of me is thankful LSU took away our Brian Kelly handicap, and the LSU half of me is frustrated beyond belief that we’re stuck looking like last decade ND

He’s been to a championship and 2 playoffs and was 12-1 the year he left the Irish.

He’s never winning anything. He doesn’t have the it factor and it’s obvious. Accept it and root for ND until we inevitably fire the prick.

Marcus freeman has beaten no one of consequence on his way to taking notre dame to a championship this season. Kelly has also taken notre dame to a national championship

He proved he didn't belong in any of those 3 postseason games, his soft teams losing 30-3, 42-14 and 31-14

It was 11-1.

A BCS title appearance. Not CFP.

How did his teams perform on those major stages?

BK served under Jack Swarbrick, who refused to spend any money on football. BK begged for years for money for coaches for recruiting for facilities. Swarbrick said “we’re an academic school with a football program not a football school with an academic program.” BK built ND into a perennial contender, leaving them ranked 5th and 11-1, with Freeman the heir apparent. BK knew in order to compete with the top programs like Bama, UGA, OSU, Mich, Ore, etc you need money. Swarbrick wouldn’t budge. LSU said they would. This is a new era of portal transfers and NIL

This isn’t taking anything away from Freeman, Golden and Denbrock. All great coaches. But it’s not an apples to apples comparison. They’re both in year 3 but they started from VASTLY different starting spots. It’s like people completely forgot about the dumpster fire Coach O left.
