2025 Australian Open Thread.

Action starts Sunday there -- Saturday night for us. Should be ESPN2 most of the way and Tennis Channel replays. Their website is AIDS, so you can't even print a nice PDF draw. But, it looks like Sinner, Medvedev, and Fritz are in the top half, with Zverev (2 seed), Alcaraz, and Djokovic in the bottom half. Enjoy the Happy Slam!
Men's Draw.

The dopers are gonna win aren't they

Never forget the despicable manner in which Australia treated their greatest champion, placing him in a detention centre as if he were a common criminal. Novak was deported after 5 days in bandage in January 2022.

Joker and Alvarez in the quarters? Sure.

No Droopy Dawg and No CoCo I may no care. But staying up late to watch some random match and listening to the Brad Gilbert Woody arguments is a care moment.

CoCo is in the Tennis Channel studio these days and looks pretty good all cleaned up.

The exact moment you knew Pistol Pete was a warrior and the guy who was THE GUY
Also that was the night Courier became a stand up dude and gain lot of cool guy points.

Pete's greatest handicap is that his prime coincided perfectly with the absolute worst fashion in tennis history.
It looks so stupid on highlight clips today seeing Sampras in those baggy shirts and shorts. Nothing like any other era of tennis.
Federer and Nadal had a little bit of the baggy era as well, but enough of their careers with the current fashion and traditional mid-thigh shorts and more fitted shirts.

I still remember the Davis Cup tie that was played in St Pete.
Pistol was the after thought of that team
Had
Chang
Agassi
Leach
Pough
Pete and Jim were alternates
Aussie bitched the whole week about the red clay, saying the rules stated had to be played on a surface that was common in the country.

I became a Sampras fan after seeing that Sampras-Courier AO match.
However, like Sampras, I thought Courier acted like an arse that night and never could stand him after that.

Courrier offered Pete to finish the match the next day

Courier multiple times kept saying "We don't have to do this man." and "Are you okay?" He was trying everything to make Pete in the best position. I seriously doubt Agassi, Becker, Krickstein, Gilbert, Cash, or Muster would have offered that.

Courier made a show of acting concerned, yelling across the net for everyone to hear. He wanted everyone to see what a great guy he was, it made Pete mad and he responded ….

Bunk or Pride,
Am I reading the draw correctly on this....
So there are seeds that had to go through the Qualifiers but then there is some Lebanese and China guy who are unseeded and in main draw auto placed? Also Gael Monfis is what 100 now?

No seeds would have had to go through qualies. There might have been seeds WITHIN qualies. I'm not sure what auto qualification is these days, but I would guess top 75-100 or so are in. Yeah, Monf is near the end, but still shows some flashes of brilliance.

Play is underway on ESPN2. It looks like rain, but I think they have three courts with a roof.
