Any thoughts on this shotgun? Decided to buy one the other day. Local hunting store had them on sale plus I had a $200 gift card to put with it. This is my first semi-auto shotgun and really first shotgun I plan on using for hunting.

Bought one for the kid for Christmas. Really like it so far. It points very well Have shot 100 or so shells through it and no issues He is small and says it doesn’t kick at all
Only complaint is the whole tube selection. I think it has 5 chokes but anything over modified you can not shoot steel through. I think 2 of the 5 chokes are rated for steel

I haven’t shot mine yet. Hopefully I’ll get too in the next few days. I really like how it feels.
I was looking at the chokes the other day also. I think you are right.

Not sure what chokes come with the gun, but most manufacturers do not recommend anything tighter than modified with steel.

I am on my third season with one. It is actually my favorite shotgun I’ve ever had. Might not be quite as much of a “high end“ name, but mine shoots where I point ( far more so than the Benelli I had before it), and has not had any mechanical issues at all.
A family member also has one, which is how I discovered them. He did have some mechanical issues and Customer Service was absolutely exemplary. Admittedly this was several years ago when they were brand new so that may not be the case anymore.
Love mine. I do use aftermarket chokes, but the above comment about steel and tight constrictions is accurate.

My BIL has a 20gauge he bought last year and he hates it. Constantly having issues with it not cycling.
Told him he should have spent the extra money and got a Benelli. I remind him every time he hunts with me.

I absolutely love mine. Got it the year after the SBE3 came out and I have no regrets about the Retay over the Benelli.
I actually had a phenomenal customer service experience with them. My masai mara was not properly cycling 7 1/2s during dove season. Called them up, they had a prepaid box at my house two days later. Dropped it at UPS and the very next day, I got a call from an absolute baw who knew exactly what was going on, fixed it for free and even said that they had another issue with them that my gun was not experiencing, but they were going to replace another part just to be safe. The gun was back at my house 2 days later with a hat to boot. I'd be hard pressed to think of a time where I had better customer service with literally any company.

How about just buy a Benelli and you would never have to deal with customer service?

Benelli are fine guns but they also have some issues one being the dreaded benelli click. Tons of stories of the bolt not going fully forward which leads to the gun not going bang. Not too big a deal ona duck but if you get a turkey within range and hear that click you are gonna be upset
The Retays are designed for that not to happen and are half price of a benelli

I
Carlson’s .
However, my reasoning may be a bit, uuh, unscientific.
I like 26 inch guns with an extended choke. It adds just a little bit of length to the barrel, which I like, and I like being able to exchange by hand.
When I got my gun, it was a pretty new company, and there were limited options for extended chokes. I found a set of these for a great price, bought them, had excellent results and have not changed.
