Situation: 2021 truck with 95k miles. I have been having problems with my truck so I took in in to get looked at this morning. Just got the call that there is evidently a shite ton of metal in my oil, which means it's likely going to need a new engine. Looks like I have 3 options:

A) Pay approximately $600 to let them rip apart the engine in order to diagnose what is causing the failure.
B) Pay $10k+ and get a new engine.
C) Take is somewhere to get rid of it before they figure out what is wrong with it.

D. Drive it into a tree instead of scamming someone else.

If everything else is in good shape, I’d probably do an engine swap. 95k miles is way young to have that kind of issue though.

A rebuilt long block crate engine swap should be less than $10k. Prolly $8500???

You’ll be ahead in less than a year.

I thought so too. That's from the dealership, which I know is generally high. I've never had to replace an engine so I'm not sure the price difference between a dealership and shop for that type of thing.

Good lord. What kind of truck gets so fricked up after only 95k miles?

Must be a Chevy or Dodge.

What will they give you in trade currently vs what it's worth if in good/great shape? If the difference in that is less than $10K, I'd probably let them replace the engine and just bite the bullet on a new/new to you one.

Don't be the a-hole that trades in a truck with a bad engine.

2.7 L TurboMax on a Chevy. I know, dumb decision.

Bought it from Matt Bowers which offers a lifetime powertrain warranty which would cover it, but you have to get every oil change done a a Matt Bowers dealership for it to be applicable so that's not an option.

What make/model truck are you dealing with? A standard V8 crate motor should be $5-6k. Shouldn't be $4k worth of labor.

You could also put a remanufactured motor in it for much cheaper.

Well this is illegal unless it’s some very specialized weird warranty you got.

It’s literally what Magnasson-Moss is for. They cannot force you to have regular maintenance at a specific location and it negatively affect your warranty. They can ask for documentation that you changed the oil at the correct intervals.

Edit:
quote:

If you own a car, you know how important it is to keep up with routine maintenance and repairs.
But can a dealer refuse to honor the warranty that came with your new car if someone else does the
routine maintenance or repairs?
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation’s consumer protection agency, says no. In fact,
it’s illegal for a dealer to deny your warranty coverage simply because you had routine maintenance
or repairs performed by someone else. Routine maintenance often includes oil changes, tire rotations,
belt replacement, fluid checks and flushes, new brake pads, and inspections. Maintenance schedules
vary by vehicle make, model and year; the best source of information about routine scheduled
maintenance is your owner’s manual.

If that’s for the block only you’ll still have to pay for labor.
