Texas shouldn’t be playing Georgia 3 times in one year, and I feel like the only reason we’re keeping these games is for the Dr Pepper tuition competition. Just move that competition to the quarterfinal bowl games and voila.

Texas may play 17 games if they make it the whole way. That’s too many and we also need to correct the seeding. Ohio state had no business being an 8 seed while Boise state and Arizona state are 3 and 4 with byes

And something that has not been talked about yet............is Carson Beck was hurt in a meaningless game.

Do you think Ga would rather win the SEC or the Natty???

Yes they do and go to a 16 team field with lower teams play in and more teams getting first round bye.

Corrected

Or just make the conference champ games the first round of the playoffs.

That means its an 8 team playoff.

More specifically the SEC and Big Ten championship games are part of the first round.

Big 12 champ, ACC champ, Mountain West champ, and Independent(Notre Dame) or other At large play each other in the first round

They are unnecessary now (actually they were never necessary), but they are lumped into the value of the TV contracts. That means the TV networks aren't going to allow those games to simply just "go away". Either the contracts would have to be reworked where the conferences receive less money by doing away with the conf. championship games OR, the more likely compromise (if the conferences want to get rid of the championship games) will be to expand the playoffs to include additional games. That means expanding the CFP field. IMO, that is what will happen.

The conferences/networks have been discussing an expanded CFP field (likely 16 teams) since before the first game of the 12 team CFP was ever played. The conferences aren't giving up any money and the TV networks aren't going to agree to pay the same amount for a reduced product (i.e. no conf. championship game). While I, personally, don't want to see a 16 team CFP, that is what is coming.

No way the big 2 conferences agree to that.

UGA vs UT was the most watched game of the season so far. Cold day in hell SECCG goes away.

They make a LOT of money for the league. I don't think they will do it until they replace that revenue somehow.

This would've been fine with the old conferences, but it's pretty clear that even making the CCG (at least in the Big Ten/SEC) is largely based on schedule than anything else. We were a lucky bounce or two from having an SEC championship game between Alabama and Texas A&M. SMU and Penn State made it entirely because of the schedule, and Indiana almost did.

Conferences are just too big for a CCG to mean anything at all- it's going to be eventually viewed the same as the conference basketball tourney

You shouldn't reward failure. Ohio St didn't win their conference. Want better seeding....win.

I’ve been saying conference championship games need to go for quite some time.

The reality of the situation is that money is much more important to those involved than what’s best for the game. Common sense is never even considered if it messes with the bottom line.

Exactly, so the game isn't going anywhere. One thing you could do is make it a play-in game instead of a championship game. Like it or not, I think the day is coming where the playoff will have automatic bids for each conference, which makes the play-in game a realistic idea.

Correct. Texas should still be in the XII along with OU.
