Got this as an early Christmas present. I’ve been a paradox fan for many years but nothing has grabbed me quite like this game. Something about the loop of industry and conquest. Any of y’all playing? Just finished up a great Brazil game.

Love it. Can be very tough, but you can get immersed

Crazy immersive and an enormous time sink. It’s a game you can just keep digging onto and never feel like you’ve mastered it. They change/update the mechanics regularly so the metas and habits you build will have to change over time. Keeps it fresh for me.

Wow, that is a really old game. Haven't played it in 6 years according to steam, but I've put over 80 hours into it.
One of my favorite war strategy type games.

How does this compare to the Total War games? I loved Empire and Napoleon

Been playing since the beginning, have like 800 hours logged and havent truly played in almost a year. I don’t get the opportunity to play much anymore, since If I’m gonna play a scenario, it can take 6 or so hours because I pause often and micro my frontlines a lot (something that is kind of needed if you’re playing a minor nation with a low manpower pool). I’m definitely a sucker for the “reforming the Austro-Hungarian Empire” path though. Love all the alt-history options. Hope the next DLC is a Japan/Pacific Theater rework with some better focus trees for all the nations that were historically involved.

Empire was my favorite TW. This is a bit different. The whole game is played on the overworld map. You have to manage frontlines, air, navy, your production lines, spies, research and special projects as well as resistance in occupied territory, all the while selecting “focuses” from a tree that will take your country down either historical routes or Alternate history paths. No game you play will ever play out the same way, so pretty much infinite replay-ability, but with new features continually being added throughout its 8 year life-span (with more to come), it can be overwhelming for a new player to hop in and learn. It’s almost worth swapping back to an old version of the game that was much more simplistic to learn core mechanics. Then once you become more comfortable you could try the more recent versions of the game. Just my honest opinion, because I’d hate to see someone invest money into the game, only to feel overwhelmed and quit after their first attempt.

Very interesting. Should I consider an older version of the game first?

I don’t think so. Just dive in, watch some streamers or YouTube videos to learn some good tips. Get crushed a few times for reasons you can’t understand and eventually you’ll figure it all out.

I think you can jump in. I played the Italy tutorial but then switched out once ww2 started and things got crazy. Since then, I’ve been trying different nations to learn different aspect of the game. My favorite so far is an Australia campaign in which I focused on navy and air force

I might have to check it out, thanks!

It's on sale for 70% off on Steam right now. Make heavy use of Steam wishlists to save games you may be on the fence about, because if you wait a few months, and it's all of a sudden 67% off, you get a new time sink for your library.
I have a game on my wishlist that I added in 2011 that I haven't pulled the trigger on, for some reason. There are ...checks notes... 15 games I added before 2023, and that's just the ones I haven't bought.
