To this day it's like an onion has been placed right in front of my face when this line is said at the end of It's a Wonderful Life.

I used to watch it every Christmas Eve.
In my old age I’ve become too much of a pussy. I end up blubbering 3-4 times throughout the movie. Hell I start crying when Mr. Gowart smacks his ear.

So if Sam Wainright gives George up to $25000 at the end of the movie, what did they do with all the money collected? It’s not like they had an accurate accounting of who put in and how much so they could get their money back.

Sam offered up to 25k. Probably didn’t use any of Sam’s offer due to townsfolk coming through with the 8k already.

Yeah. Seems pretty selfish to take money from obviously poor people that the entire movie talked about how poor they were when your rich friend has offered to help.
I like it’s a wonderful life, and it wasn’t addressed in the movie. He very well could have given all the money back after the credits
I do wish they didn’t cut the scene with Potter dying though.

'Black-ish' creator Kenya Barris to remake 'It's A Wonderful Life'

Watching It's a Wonderful Life on Christmas Eve has been our tradition for 30 years. It's me and my wife's favorite movie and tradition.

That movie is such a powerhouse. Has two of the top 5 scenes in the history of cinema between the one referenced by OP and when George and Mary first kiss

The point isn't about the 25k. The point is that George had such a strong friend, that the near notion that George was in a tough spot that he could get him to give him up to 25k if he needed it

I'm 43 and have never seen this movie. I need to make it a point to sit down and watch it soon.

Per the current definition of "Christmas Movie" (written to intentionally exclude films like Die Hard), is this a Christmas movie?
Isn't Christmas more of a time/setting than an active part of the story?
If you removed Christmas from the movie altogether, would the movie really change at all?
*ETA: this is not my theory but it's now ripe to test it.

I’ve always felt like calling it my favorite Christmas movie ever was underselling it because in reality it’s just one of my favorite movies ever
I just happen to watch it on Christmas Eve
So it’s a fair question

People in Bedford Falls are honest, with the exception of Potter.
Violet's money was George's so he could just keep that.
