Bronze cerakote barrels .. whats your opinion

Been looking at some great guns.. weatherby to be specific. But i feel like the ones that only come with the bronze cerakote barrel are crappy lookin. What am i missing

I like them for the most part but my last several rifles all had carbon fiber barrels.

I don't care for it but it's better than bare stainless, far uglier than good bluing.

I’ll never get cerakote done again, it’s chips really bad if you actually use your gun.

I was gifted the Weatherby Vanguard Badlands edition when it came out a few years ago. I liked the look of it when I got it and I still like it today.
It does have a couple spots on the barrel where the cerakote finish is dinged up a bit from normal use but it's not bad at all. Most importantly, it's a tack driver.

Very nice looking gun. Love their camo stocks. Just wish theyd offer more with blue or stainless barrels and stay away from the bronze.

Your application wasn’t done right if you are experiencing chipping. Most likely the area of application wasn’t prepped correctly. I have not experienced chipping with any of my applications.

It came straight from browning’s factory on my a5. Granted I don’t baby my equipment, I use it, but it does not seem worth the craze in my opinion, it holds up no better than any other finish.

Man I may have to pick one of those up. I bought a bunch of badlands for 50% so now I’m kind of a fanboy
Just wish they made that 7mm08 in a 20 inch barrel.

I beat the hell out of my shotgun in the marsh and my cerakote has held up well for about 7 years. It is showing some wear on the top of the receiver and probably could use a re-do, but I like it.

Any finish is going to wear with use. if you want it to stay looking new leave it in the box. IMO the main benefit of Cerakote is not that it is some magic non-wearing superior coating, but that its a suitable finish for firearms and is available in colors other than black and silver.

I’ve hunted with blued guns in the salt for 26 years. Waterproof case and wiping it down after the hunt will keep things looking new. Also, not leaving it in the case for extended periods.

I’m not a fan but I will say the guns look a lot better in person than in pictures. Burnt bronze is a lot darker than the pics make it look and it grows on you. I do agree slapping a black scope and rings on top clashes and I’m ready for the fad to die.

That's fair and I know several people who do the same. I hunt in the marsh grass though and my gun takes a heavy beating during season. I 100% miss spots periodically cleaning in season and if I got one rust pit on a blued gun, I'd want it re-blued. Cerakote/dip combo just makes it such that I don't have to worry about it, which is important to me. Tomorrow morning will be 5 of the last 6 days in the marsh and my gun hasn't left the gun box in my boat.
Don't get me wrong, I think blued guns with walnut stocks are beautiful - just not practical for how I hunt. The way I treat my duck gun is also very different than the way I treat my other guns, but I understand not everyone is like that.

I used to duck hunt with a guy in the marsh that had Remington field master. His shotgun was damn near silver because the bluing was worn out and his gun never rusted.

That’s interesting. One of my good buddies in college came hunting with me a few times. He had an 1100 20ga. One time, we hunted then drove back from St. Bernard to my house in BR. Took a nap then woke up a couple hours later and his gun was rusted to hell. It had stayed in the case. Not pitted, but surface rust. Honestly that’s what I gauge my opinions on blued guns in the marsh on.
Do you think maybe there are different levels of bluing/machining? I have my dad’s 12ga Ithaca that I’ve hesitated to bring to the marsh just because of that. I’d love to hunt with it.

Exactly. It’s crap.
I get it for just wanting to customize your gun or whatever, but as far as the actual finish goes, it’s crap.
