It is pretty disgusting that the #1 seed will have to play the winner of Ohio State and Tenn, and #2 Seed GA will play ND, while #6 seed Penn State draws (cough cough) #3 seed Boise State (Penn State will be double digit favorite, and #5 seed Texas draws #4 seed Arizona State. Texas will be 14 point favorites. The seeding are a complete joke, and the top 2 teams are definitely not rewarded. It is almost like Texas has been designated all year to win the championship, starting with the joke of an SEC schedule that surely had to be given to them on purpose, then the playoff games of Clemson and Arizona State (Clemson wasn't even sniffing playoffs until beating SMU to win the ACC).

Texas has had a pathetic schedule. And their route to the semi-finals is suspiciously easy. The playoffs have sucked thus far. Maybe they'll improve.

I wish Boise State would win the whole damned thing.

I am sick of the SEC and the Big10. No LSU means I will pull for every team that plays an SEC team.

If you are the number 1 team (seed), you want to play the best. This is what we wanted. How many times in years past of the CFP have people said "the number 1 seed has it easy. They get to play Oklahoma or whoever the 4 seed outside of Alabama".

It should be hard. It is the playoffs. No team should have it easy. The first round sure bc the higher seeds are playing at home. Once you get to 2nd round it should be harder.

How else will the committee earn that pocket money?

Penn State didn’t have a ranked win and gets SMU and Boise

There’s a reason the seeding system exists. By being the #1 seed you get rewarded. Why should the #12 seed have an easier path than a team that outperformed them all year?

One way to fix this is to keep the 5 conference champions as automatic entrants and select the next seven as we do now.

At this point (once the field is complete), then you seed the 12 teams by some metric regardless of conference.

Top 4 get the bye. The next four get the home game in the first round.

16 team field with no bye makes sense. #16 at #1, #15 at #2 and so forth. Conference champions are simply that with no advantage to CFP ranking other than likely getting a bump in actual ranking. The ranking dictates the seeding. Simple as 1-16, period.

The 12th seed have an easier path? How? They play on the road for first game. Did they win? No

The 1st seed has a bye. Then play the lowest seed remaining in the next round.

How is that not setting the number 1 seed up for success?

As it should be. The problem now is that the teams aren’t seeded correctly which screws up the entire point of having a seeding system.

The purpose of the bracket is to crown a champion, not level the playing.

How are they not seeded properly? Who is not ranked where they should be? All teams that have a bye are teams that win their conference. Why should they be penalized?

We know. That’s the part that messes it up, there shouldn’t be auto byes. The number #9 and #12 overall seeds should not get byes. It messes up the entire point of seeding the teams.

Exactly I agree do it like the fcs playoffs

5 auto bids
7 at large bids

Conference champions are not guaranteed top 4 seeds all based on playoff rankings just like the fcs playoffs

First round bye:
1 Oregon
2 Georgia
3 Texas
4 Penn State

First round playoffs:
12 Clemson @ 5 Notre Dame
11 Arizona State @ 6 Ohio State
10 SMU @ 7 Tennessee
9 Boise State @ 8 Indiana

The #9 seed and #12 seed did not get byes. They are playing on the road. Seeds #1-4 got the byes.

If you win your conference and get a 1-4 seed, you get a bye. That was the agreement for expansion. If there was no agreement, then there is no expansion.

Your whole argument is flawed. No one was seeded wrong. The number 1 seed still gets the lowest seed remaining team. It will never be perfect bc it is based on rankings but I feel the teams were seeded as they should be seeded.

If conference champions are not guaranteed bye, why do you have Penn State higher seeds than ND?

You think Penn State could beat ND? I don't like ND but I think their team is better than Penn State.

That is the reason for conference champions get the bye. Everyone will be bitching about ND schedule if they get a first round bye. According to your suggestion, they would get a bye.

Also if conference champions do not get a bye, what is the incentive for playing in the conference championship game. UGA lost their starting QB and they would be in the CFP. The reason they wanted to win was to get the bye.

I’m not talking about the #9 and #12 seeded teams. I’m talking about the #9 and #12 ranked teams.

We fricking know. I’m saying it’s stupid.
