If Mcmahon ends up not working out...

Now, I am one of the big and have been one of the biggest McMen since the beginning of his tenure. He is a proven program builder, and in year three we have seen noticeable strides. Lets say in two years we are still stuck in the muddy middle.
Should Scott Woodward give Coach Wright a call? At least make him say no. Thats the worst thing that could happen.

Where has this been proven? Just curious.

No he's not. Murray State was a well established program when they hired him.

They made the round of 32 twice in his seven year tenure as HC. did it 6 times in their history prior to that. Also, made the tourney an additional time. But yes, the big bad Murray State Racers.

First call at the end of this season should be to Will Wade

This doesn't represent building a program. He maintained what was already a successful midmajor basketball program. He gets credit for that, but that isn't program building.

I hope McMahon can work some magic this year. The SEC is a gauntlet, anything greater than .500 in SEC will be a success. The sad reality is, if he doesn't finish greater than .500 the fan base will want him gone.

Agreed. Most fans arent watching these games. The dudes play hard. We just dont have the talent to match up with said gauntlet. Losing Reed is a big loss too

He didn't "build" the Murray St. program. It had been a winning program for nearly 30 years when he got the job. Mick Cronin, Billy Kennedy, and Steve Prohm all had success there before him that led them to get major conf. jobs.
Call? Sure. But Wright has shown no interest in coaching again in the NIL/transfer era. In fact, he said multiple times that he doesn't miss coaching.

To be completely fair, he also coached Murray St. to one of their two losing seasons in the past 40 years

pet peeve for me - playing hard should not even be an option or a thought. If they don't you play someone else and If they still aren't there's a problem.
Having said that I hope CMM can get this thing rolling.

Number one I hope in two years that our athletic director will be gone. Number two, who is coach Wright

And whom may I dare ask is responsible for insuring that we have the talent to compete throughout this gauntlet??????
I know the motherflucker before McMahon had ZERO PROBLEM getting studs on the roster by ANY MEANS NECESSARY , just like every other successful coach. Oh, and his teams suffered their fair share of injuries just like everyone else does. You could make a strong argument that the loss of Pinson tanked whichever season that was a few years ago. As Bill Parcells would say, "nobody cares about your injuries."
The bottom line is that Woodward didn't back Wade up until the end. I believe he was more interested in making his homeboy (Emmert) look less shitty in how he ran the NCAA. That, and it's the easy road which most of us would take. Most won't rock the boat just to keep those massive paychecks coming, and to still be invited to all the cocktails parties. The ADs that are all about winning would take the tougher road.

No doubt. But its a real thing. The bench is only so deep. If players dont like their coach it shows up on the court.

You aint wrong. But after the Wade debacle we lost any momentum we had. Plus if you are being recruited by almost any basketball school and LSU why come here? Not saying MM is the answer long term but he wouldve had an easier time taking a Missouri or Texas Tech type position than trying to resurrect this bastion Woodward created instead of telling the NCAA to pound sand like zona, duke, kansas all did

That should be evident pretty quick and change should be made immediately in that case. I'm pulling for CMM I want him to succeed but my point is that if playing hard is the bar for measuring success that's way too low of a bar.
Needs to include much more.

I am POSITIVE that Wade or any coach that is a top recruiter would have done a better job than McMahon getting top flight talent here in these last 3 years.
LSU is a top 5 college brand if not the top brand. It isn't a hard sell if you have the money to pay the players, and we always have had that. We're top 10 all time in signing McDonald's and Parade AAs.
I can't remember the recruit, but him and his dad described Wade as the Elon Musk of college coaches a few years back. I am positive Wade would have been more likely to, and probably would have signed Chris
Cenac.
I'm rooting like hell for McMahon, even though some neanderthals on the board think that if you don't praise the current coach you aren't a true fan. I just don't see it with Matt. We had it with Dale, and Wade. Now we're just wishing in one hand and crapping in the other because our administration couldn't back a winner who was in the process of reviving the program.
Over the last 10-15 years, the NCAA is about as scary of a law enforcement entity as Barney Fife was in Mayberry. And we just bent over to the pressure from the national media, instead of holding the line.
