Area 2
67° slight south wind
28 nos
Thermacell fighting the great fight
Hunting over the same bottom I’ve been hunting. The new access I found has me skirting the hardwoods I assumed the deer would be feeding in. I figured since I skirt it to the north, the south wind would make it ok, but a deer ended up catching my wind and letting everything around know about it. I got in early and quiet though so I should be ok. Deer blowing doesn’t worry me too much since they blow at random shite all the time.

We’ve been seeing a possible shooter down here from another stand. Time for a closer look.

Hell yeah. What do yall consider shooters?

Our rules are two out of three-
4” base
19” main beam
16” inside spread
Nothing drastic, just trying to kill grown deer.
I very well may not shoot another buck this year, as I’ve already killed a good one. I’m going to need to thing he’s really good to shoot. Does and hogs are another story.

That’s where I’m at too. I got a doe and that 7pt I killed last week for the freezer already so I’m good. I’m looking for one for the wall now. It’s gonna suck to get one out of here so it needs to be worth it. Plus if I kill another one, I’m calling it a trip and headed home. I need to save a tag for the week after Christmas since my brother will be joining me on that trip.

Box in a clearcut
Buck I been after for 2 years showed up yesterday at 7:30 and I was duck hunting. Went back this morning and he came out behind a doe at 6:45. Once in a lifetime buck for these parts

Congrats
At any time this morning, did you wish you’d had a 6.5 creed?

He was quartering to me when I shot. I didn’t see an exit hole and these bullets normally leave a golf ball size hole thru them. I’ll be skinning him soon and see the results

I’ve had a 300 WBY not exit on a hard quartering shot. Dropping the buck was the important thing.

I know Livingston isn't considered big-buck country - but that would be a nice buck anywhere!

Warm

Sitting on the edge of an ag field with creek to my right and cutover directly in front of me.
Had a good one show up on camera here yesterday evening, about 20 minutes after legal light.

I’m back at it. Went to the camper midday and took a little nap, now I’m ready to knock one down.
It’s 76° with a south wind.
I moved areas completely. I’m in a spot that I’ve hunted out here for the past 4 years. It’s the first spot I ever hunted here. Came here in the blind, on a really foggy morning and ended up killing an 8pt that I got mounted. The following year I killed another 8pt that fell within 20 yards of where the first one fell.
It’s a hardwood funnel between a bayou and some real thick bedding. The edge is lined with rubs and scrapes. I’ve had a camera on a scrape here since thanksgiving. It’s been slow, but last night I got pictures of an 8pt hitting the scrape and fighting with a spike. Also had a picture of a doe running by, but Tactacam won’t send the video so I can see what was behind her.
I also found the biggest rub I’ve ever found out here, about 75 yards from the tree I’m set up in. He must be taking a path that dodges my camera.
Here’s a crappy picture of said rub. I didn’t want to get close to it and put my scent all by it.

Do you have to physically measure before shooting
