Going to Mackinac Island and also spend time in Wisconsin in early September.
Probably spend most of our time in Wisconsin around Sheboygan (golf) and heard a lot of good things about Milwaukee.
Anyone ever been and have ideas or advise on the area?
Thanks!!

It's a great time of year to be up that way. The drive up and around from the Sheboygan area is beautiful. Could stop for a Lambeau stadium tour (or actual game) depending on when you're going up. The northern region of the lower peninsula is also amazing in the Traverse City/Torch Lake area.

I believe we're flying into Grand Rapids and stay around Charlevoix area for the first couple of nights. Home base for our Mackinac day.
Plan on making the drive around the upper peninsula into Wisconsin.
Lambeau is a definite stop. Door County. Possibly Madison.
Heard a lot of good things about Milwaukee from where we will eventually fly back home.

As a southerner, I always love going to Milwaukee because I know I'm going to eat and drink well.

We stayed in Sheboygan when LSU played atLambeau Field a few years ago. Nice little community. I don’t remember the names but there were several good restaurants on the waterfront including a couple of Italian ones.

I haven't been to Michigan, but don't be surprised if Wisconsin is much warmer than you're hoping for. I've been twice in September and got toasted both times.

MKE kicks arse. I head up a few times each year to bar hop. Was there for a full weekend this past, but usually take first Amtrak up and last one back to/from Chicago. I've told this board before, but probably the most-underrated bar and tavern city in the country. Definitely recommend eating and drinking your way through Bay View, Third Ward, Lower East Side, Walker's Point, Brewery District, and Riverwest. If I stay overnight, usually opt for Hilton Garden Inn Milwaukee Downtown. You're also walking distance from Intermodal Station if you'd prefer to take the train to Mitchell.

My wife was a bartender in the Chicago burbs for years and we always went to MKE to drink. Her favorite is the Swinging Door and their Old Fashioned.

Charlevoix and Petoskey on your way from Traverse City to the Island. Petoskey Brewing Company makes good beer. Well did last time I had them a few years back.
MUST: Kitch-it-kipi springs on your way accross the UP.
Find local blueberry jelly , Pasties, Fudge, and other UP/Northern Michigan treats. Walleye is one of the best fish IMHO.

Grand Rapids is freaking beer city USA. If you're into that kind of thing, at a minimum hit Founder's (my favorite brewery in the country). Really cool brewery setting, good food, and a lot of their rare barrel aged stuff on tap. New Holland also really good.

Minus the rampant racism and discrimination within their company, of course. Haven't had a single beer from Founder's since their atrocious response to the first lawsuit in 2018. Things may have settled down since, but they were basically blacklisted by a number of bars, breweries, and restaurants.

Not familiar with this but checking it out.

I love Milwaukee but I have to say if I was doing your trip I would not go there and alott more of that time to the UP or Northwest Michigan. You didn't mention getting to Sleeping Bear Dunes which to me would be a must. I just think you'll probably never make it to the UP again whereas you may make it to Milwaukee another time.
Just be aware that September in the UP is peak black fly season and they can be brutal.

For Grand Rapids breweries, I'd recommend City Built, Creston, Speciation, or Harmony . But Brewery Vivant is the real highlight of the GR beer scene.
If you go through Traverse City, Right Brain is pretty great.

Horse flies! But they're easier to kill than regular biting flies.

Made pretty much the same trip this past June. Flew into Grand Rapids and out of MKE. We drove straight to Mackinac Island and stayed 2 nights at mission point resort. I highly recommend exploring the UP. Pictured rocks national lakeshore, the Soo locks in Sault St. Marie, and Kitch-iti-kipi natural spring are great places to stop in the UP.
When you go to Mackinac, take the shepplers ferry from St. Ignace rather than Mackinac City it is far less crowded. After the UP we stayed in an Airbnb in Algoma (few miles outside of door county) on Lake Michigan. We spent one day in Green Bay touring Lambeau which was worth it. Door County also has a lot to offer.
