Free Enterprise has entered College athletics

Its called NIL! Its not going anywhere.
The concept might be foreign to some here. So...
What Is Free Enterprise?
The term free enterprise refers to an economy where the market determines prices, products, and services rather than the government.
A lot of these athletes don't give a damn about a degree. The NFL says that can't go pro until 3yrs after HS. I say let them go pro out of HS (like baseball) for those that are good enough. If they need development, put them on practice squads or create minor league system. This problem really starts with "forcing" them risk injury on the college level in the first place.

1. Same is true for baseball. 98% of HS baseball players can't start in MLB, yet baseball players are not restricted from going pro out of HS.
2. My original post said, development could occur in a football minor league system (like baseball), and practice squads, at least for people who more interested in going pro, than a college degree.

Which is where the XFL/USFL whatever it's called now needs to start focusing their efforts.
Become the farm system for the NFL that we all know needs to exist. Play the 3 seasons or turn 21 (whichever comes 1st) to prepare for the NFL & go.
Stop wasting NCAA roster spots on kids who have 0 intention for a degree.
On top of that - they can always return NCAA to play their 2nd sport, get their degree, & EVERYONE wins.

I agree. Let the most talented players go pro out of high school. If they need to be developed they can be put on practice squads or some type of G-League.
It’ll surprise everyone by actually giving us a better college football product without all the elite players who are just looking to get a bag of money instantly. The players in college will be actual student athletes again who love the game of football.

Won't happen. No money in any other leagues than the NFL and CFB

Practice squads would be part of each of the 32 NFL teams if they would decide to go that route. I could see that working. You just call them up from the practice squad if you feel they’ve developed enough or if you need them due to injuries.

I really like that.

If the top talent went to a minor league right out HS, you're talking a separate multi billion dollar industry. The point is that restricting the student athletes ability to receive maximum compensation is just Un-American.

Right. The existing practice squads might serve that purpose.

It’s not foreign. We’re all well acquainted with professional football. It’s just not why most of us because fans of the college game. It’s not what amateur athletics was designed to be, and it certainly isn’t amateur athletics anymore.

True but the NFL doesn't have a system where if you draft a hs kid you control their career for 7-8 years. Baseball does. The NFL also doesnt have a period where said hs kid can decide against going pro and go to college anyway. Baseball does. The NFL isn't gonna pay million dollar contracts waiting and hoping a hs kid pans out. Most would go undrafted creating another issue. Even basketball, the easiest to transition from hs to pro, has to wait a year.

The NFL already has the best farm, and culling, system for the pro league. It IS college football.
Conferences and the NCAA could likely initiate a rule that limits the annual jump to the transfer portal by players. I’m speaking of those players entering the transfer portal MULTIPLE times. And these athletes, and the universities could pretend to prioritize graduation, degrees and education for all players.

Kind of my point. The NFL doesn't have a system at all that would allow a kid to turn pro out of HS. But they should.

Not for every athlete no. But for some 4 and 5 star athletes, I'm sure franchises could benefit from investing the same type of money that we see from NIL to develop a kid in a pro system, rather than wait 3 years to get a guy who might be beat up by the college systm.

Most would end up in the college system. Select guys would get drafted into the "farm system*.

Football, wait 3 years.
Basketball wait 1 year.
Baseball wait 0 years.
Football and Basketball are much stronger college revenue generators. So college is used as a farm system, while university athletic departments rake in billions. I'm not in favor of controlling where an athlete goes, ESPECIALLY, if he's a generational talent. Let the kid earn money when he's the healthiest. Fresh out of HS.

Why would the NFL do this?
Finance companies don't hire promising math students right out of HS, then spend their own capital training them for 3-5 years. They make them earn a college degree and let the colleges pay to develop them.

Never going to happen. Nfl owners will never agree to pay salaries/training for farm league players.

College football is the minor league system for the NFL you don't need more shitty leagues that no one will watch to have a minor league system when there is already one in place. Like I said in previous all players if they get recruited and offered a scholarship should get paid a base salary being it's all the same for everyone. Anything any certain player can get over and above that through free market or sponsorship should be acceptable. Everyone makes money that way and no one is left out. Every player puts in the same amount of time whether your first string second string or 3rd string.
