The wealthier schools know that we are a poor state. They know we are vulnerable. It’s like taking candy from a baby. Our recruiting classes will continue to be pillaged if we keep going after the big fish. We’re gonna have to “money ball” this shite until NIL is somewhat under control.

What we need to do is drive up the price on all of these guys. You make these richer programs go real big on the auction amount. Keep upping the bid.

You people need to realize Louisiana might be a poor state, but LSU is not a poor university and the football program is one of the most important pieces to the school.

Do you think LSU got Bryce Underwood, Kade Phillips, Pickett, Dakorien Moore committed by just relationships? No. They had money and had NIL deals packaged. The problem is putting our best offer on the table immediately. It allows other schools like Texas and Michigan and so on to continue upping the price and out spend us at the end. We may not be elite in the NIL collective landscape, but we are good and that does not mean we should not target 5 star recruits imo.

UT, aTm, Oregon collectives have more money than the government. You won’t stop them from taking who they want.

Just tamper with other teams rosters. That’s the way I see it.

LSU is now in the same position as Mississippi State. We will have to bring in low rated recruits and hope they are “diamonds in the rough” types. Develop them and by the time they are seniors, we might have a contender for the playoffs.

Your post is dead on. The problem is obvious to me. We put our best foot forward early and give ourselves a bullseye. We obviously have the money because these guys are committing to begin with, but we make our offer approachable by being first.

Kelly or Austin Thomas (whoever runs these negotiations) needs to adjust the strategy.

it doesn’t matter what number the auction starts at, it’s going to go to the highest bidder, and it’s going to be the same schools every time.

I think this is absolutely correct. Terrible strategy by our staff really.

Well said.

Are we really that low?

I think we are on the same level as Ole Miss, Missouri, Hogs, OK, Tenn and Auburn. USCe and Kentucky seem to be slightly above Mississippi State. Florida is above us probably at the same level as Alabama. ATM, Texas and UGA are clearly the money schools in the SEC. Vandy is a money school too if they want to be.

This is why I keep saying put money in baseball and basketball. LSU is competing for 4 stars now, 5 stars are out of our budget other maybe one. We can’t compete in football at this point

There is no real reason for commitments anymore. They are non binding bullshite and its getting worse.

What don`t people understand that college football has become like the NFL
a business where you have to be prudent with your resources.NIL and
portal have completely changed the game for better or worse.
Alot of posters have said LSU doesn`t have the money but I read LSU`S
nil is top 5 in college football. It`s not how much you spend it`s who you
decide to spend it on.If you can go into the portal and get a proven player
for the same money that a high school player wants what would you do.It`s
now a business decision.

Even if we don’t show our cards early, Michigan would still have simply raised our bid at the end of the cycle. You either have the cards or you don’t.

Nah. People has this mentality after 5for5 and all the other flips we have lost over the years. We still pulled plenty of 5*s and high 4* guys. Push forward and roll with the punches.
