Why is Muhammad Ali so revered when he is a racist POS?

I don't get how people have forgotten, (or forgiven him for), all the racist shite he use to spew and have now placed him on this iconic pedestal.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, watch this interview where he talks about "the white man"

Didn't he refuse to enter the draft too?

I've never understood his canonization either.
He was also a draft dodger. Of course, this is the country that elected Bill Clinton...

Speedy I have been saying this for a long time.

Blacks back then faced real discrimination, not the bs that is brought up these days, not trying to excuse his attitudes, but it is more understandable for someone of that era.

How about Hank Aaron, possibly the biggest racist alive?

Wow an awful lot of people defend Ali's extremist beliefs regarding white people, I don't think anyone ever owned him as a slave, or any of the other things he talks about. But it's ok for him to say those things, yet not interviewing a black candidate for a coaching postion is racist. It's gone too far. Everybody is a victim of something and is entitled to something because of it. Bunch of pussies one and all. Life is hard. Their are many successful people of all races that didn't sit on their asses, whining and complaining of being held down because of their race. Those complainers and whiners are the ones who should be ashamed. MLK was preaching that if you want respect, be respectable, improve yourself, do something positive. He would be ashamed of the whiners too. Any time race is mentioned in any way, shape, or form, as part of a decision, good or bad, it's racist, no matter how you dress it up. It needs to just stop.

i have said Ali is a piece of shite. It goes beyond racist, he's just a selfish arse. they way he treated Frazier was a joke. The inside the lines story about the Frazier/Ali rivalry really made me despise Ali more than i already did.

Have to admit, I think much less of him now after watching that.

This might not be the popular response but think about the situation. A black man is forced to go fight a war for a country he felt did not support him. The only way for him to avoid this was to change his religion right? Like him or not, he did what he felt was in his best interest.
His country got involved in a war many felt they should have stayed away from, then they were going to force people to go fight?
Don't get me wrong, I support my country but sometimes you have to look at both sides.

Did white people treat him and his people fairly back then when he did the interviews or was he called **** constantly and received death threats because of his skin color.

Would it be OK if the head of the KKK said any black man who has sex with a white woman would be killed?
The KKK actually did kill black men for screwing white women, and, if caught in a consensual interracial relationship, many white women hollered "rape," which meant a long prison term or lynching for her black lover.

the "replacement" medal given to him after he bragged about chunking his original one in the Ohio River and letting him light the torch in Atlanta in 1996 was revolting.

And a cowardly draft dodger.

He had every reason in the world to hate whites and not fight in the Army back then!
