Looking to get a dog in the near future. Best dog I ever had as a kid was a jack russell. A couple buddies own vizslas and I would love one. Interested to hear others opinions

Do you have kids? How big is your yard? Do you expect to go on walks/jogs with the dog?

We had a wiener dog and she was the best. Would chase squirrels until she had to lay down from exhaustion. When you jumped in the pool she would jump after you and would circle until you came up and got out of the water. She was a total protector and loyal dog. Miss her a bunch. Very very intelligent.

Brittany. With the proper care and attention they almost become another civilized human in your home

He has his moments like eating a piece of one of his blankets and later throwing that right back up. But, ultimately no bs he’s probably 10% neater than my wife haha

I had a border collie that was calm after about 4-5 years. Best dog in the world. She’s would shed but it was worth it. Loved my son and I work partly from home and she would just chill with me at my desk. I miss her everyday, she passed a few months ago…. Felt like losing a family member.

Miniature schnauzer.
She was smart, sweet, and silly. They make for good watchdogs, as she’d alert to a lot of happenings outside. She gave us a good 15.5 years.

Had a bunch of dogs over 54 years. Just recently had to put down our 16.5 year old Ice white Toy Poodle. He was the best and most intelligent dog I have ever had and I remember caving to my wife back in 2008. I wanted a larger dog and she wanted a Poodle. Best damn dog I could have ever wished for.

I've had two tied for the best.
My first dog: Black Lab that I got as a kid for a birthday gift. Had him for 13 years. Was a great hunting dog and overall a great pet.
My first Blue Heeler: Someone dumped off one near our farm when I was late in my high school years, kept her for about 11 years. She was super smart and made me fall in love with the breed.
Really need to know what kind of environment you have and what kind of activities you are into to really recommend a breed. Some dogs like Labs thrive in pretty much any setting. Other dogs like Heelers or other herding dogs need room to run and need a job to do, or some kind of activity to keep them happy.

Best two dogs I’ve had were a golden retriever and a golden doodle. I think golden retrievers are probably better bets but the doodles don’t shed.
