Okay so my brother’s gf killed her first deer this morning. It was a smaller 10 pt but a nice deer nonetheless, especially for a first deer!

She said she wanted to mount it so I was caping the deer for her. After I caped it my dumbass realized it looked too short. They brought it to the taxidermy and sure enough it’s too short.

Now I feel like a POS. That’s where I need help if available.

If anyone kills a deer/buck this weekend or upcoming week around the 140 to 170 pound range that doesn’t mind caping the deer so I can replace the one I cut too short? Please let me know.

I’m willing to pay for the services/help. Thanks. In the north Baton Rouge area.

Put it on a 115 pound spike and make it really look impressive!
79yr ol in our camp shot one yesterday evening that would have been a perfect candidate.
He said it was huge!!!

I posted in the other thread about my cousin killing that monster in 1965. He actually had to slit the deer’s throat and wound up getting it mounted on a doe’s cape later. You should be fine with any deer you can get. If I shoot one, you’re welcome to it.

Ring the deer around the middle and around the front hocks, and cut no hide after that till the cape is off. Taxidermist will love your work.

I thought so too about the doe but apparently the taxidermist said probably not.

And I knew to do this. I just forgot to and then cut too short afterwards. Gonna figure out how to make it right for her.

Call some other taxidermist in your area and see if they have extra capes. I know some taxidermist in the past would pay people to bring good capes to have if needed.

At one point we would cape every buck we shot and essentially get a free horn mount or discounted skull mount, was a win/win for us and a family friend who was a taxidermist before he got out of the business.
