Does anyone know the recruiting story of Pro Bowler Ed Reed from Destrehan HS?

LSU sucked when he was being recruited. End of discussion.

I heard a story once from a guy that knew his family. They guy said Ed Reed wanted to attend LSU but didn't like the way Dinardo handled his recruitment.

Hell yes

Ed Reed is representing from DHS (actually Saint Rose)

And JJ too.

Reed was QB for Destrehan

I saw him at a scouting combine

We had Nall and Booty coming in if I remember correctly.

I think he also played on defense at Destrehan.

He's a ball hawk!

If I remember correctly, Dinardo and company really felt good about Reed and Reggie Wayne. Then, they both took a recruiting trip to Miami together and were blown away. The rest is history.

Also, I think Ed Reed was a national winner in the Punt, Pass, and Kick competition as a kid.

Mike Scifers (the punter for the Chargers) is from Destrahan High School also. I say this because the two of them were arguably the MVPs of their teams last week.

I know one thing about Reed, he might go down as the best safety to ever play the game. Dude is and has always been tough.

Agreed.

Miami was top dog at the time. Similar to Ala back in the Bear days, when he cherry picked Tommy Wilcox and Steve Mott from La. Both were All Americans on a NC team.

Doesn't he have a younger brother that is playing or played for destrehan?
Maybe mistaken but I think I read about him some time ago. He is/was an undersized db and a good returner.

Don't get me wrong. Reed is great, but he's no Ronnie Lott.

Ed Reed was the "best" playground football player I have ever seen. He played for Jefferson playground and his nickname was "pumpkin".

He scored every time he touched the ball on offense and killed people on defense. He used to line up like 15 yd behind the LOS on Def and just shoot to the ball like a heat seeking missile. A lot of kids quit football b/c of him.

BTW, Jefferson playground also had a stud named Jonathan Wells (played for OSU and the Texans) playing at the same time.

End of story. While at Miami he recruited the River Parishes better than Dinardo.

People forget that Dinardo, while not a horrible recruiter, wasn't a very good one. Not nearly as good as we are used to now.

Favorite Ed Reed memory:

It is Destrehan's last game of the regular season. The only way for us to win district is to beat South Lafouche by a certain number of points. Time is about the expire and we aren't at that number yet, only leading by a couple. South Lafouche starts driving the ball on us to try and take the lead. Ed Reed intercepts the ball deep in our own territory and with time expiring returns the INT for a TD to give us enough points to win district. Sick, sick play.
