With the glaring holes in our roster and overall substandard performance as a program, why would Kelly highlight that they have "stayed under the cap" seemingly intentionally.

Was this year just a wash from the jump? Just coach speak for yeah with underwood out we have play money?

I legitimately dont understand the way BK handles his press conferences and the narratives of his program.

He said it to make it clear that they are going to be able to spend a bunch of money in the portal. Something that many fans on here have praised him for not doing.

Kelly is not the decision maker regarding the cap. You guys have no idea what you are talking about

He literally admitted they didn’t spend a lot of money last year on transfers (which is why we ended up with Gilbert) but this year will actually spend the big bucks to get the players we need to compete

Its almost like this quote is directly from BK:
“We were in the market, in the transfer portal, looking for defensive linemen. It hasn’t fared very well, quite frankly, because we are selling something a little bit differently. And that is, we want to recruit. We want to engage, build relationships. We want to develop, retain, and have success. We’re not in the market of buying players. … And unfortunately, right now, that’s what some guys are looking for. They want to be bought. … We’re not going to go out and buy players.”

So which one is it? We've been swinging and missing or we been saving up?

In the context of being spenders in the portal he meant we have money to spend next year.

Kelly is old school like Saban. They built programs from the ground up through recruiting. The new era of college football with NIL and transfers has really exploded over the last 3 years and Saban realized his way of doing it wouldn't survive and he retired. It took Kelly a couple of years to realize this and I think the Underwood fiasco clearly affected his philosophy moving forward. The CAP they speak of is paying new players more than you are paying your existing starters and the issues that can cause along with paying Underwood. I promise you will see it at Michigan at some point. If Nuss comes back he will be the only returning starter that would demand top money. The rest including Transfers are up for grabs. Really no returning big name players. Swinson and Jones will be gone as well as Campbell. I think Jones should come back another year. Guillory and Perkins coming back from injury wouldn't demand top dollar,

Hopefully between the results of the season so far & the Underwood situation, it's become BK's come to Jesus moment where reality hits him. The old way of building a program & roster needs to be tweaked to get with the times. It's either adapt & survive or continue down the same path & become extinct.

I mean the top programs still don’t take a ton from the portal. Just a handful of studs

We have an elite class coming in. And we're a usc or florida win away from being playoff bound. Dramatic post.

He said we have $$ freed up, to keep class together, and be aggresive in the portal. Lets see if we do both.

Get daniels, maybe nuss/ jones back, and guillory/ maybe Perkins on defense... we'll be primed to f some sh up in 25'.

Let's cheer for 9-4 and not hope for 7-6, and to justify pissing and moaning. We all want to win
