Sorry, I started to recommend a Leupold VX-3 2.5-8x36, but I found one on eBay for $350 so I had to buy it. , but that’s what I’d recommend. Either that or 3.5-10x40

Go with VX-Freedom or Vortex Diamondback if you’re on a budget.

I built a 6.5 cm for my son a couple of years ago and put a Burris RT-15 3-15x50.

The scope is really good and I’d easily recommend one.

Meopta is a very good scope as well. I have one on a 6.5 gr

And as others have recommended, a Leupold VX3 is a very good scope. My only gripe with it is the lack of side focus on it.

Budget would really help.

For kids hunting scopes (assuming whitetail <200ish) I like a simple, uncluttered reticle (duplex, #4, etc) , a low power range (2-7,3-9ish) or fixed 4x/6x, and free of shite they could accidentally frick up like turrets that spin easily or illuminated reticles.

Leupold, trijicon, vortex, etc. all make great options. Watch weights, you might not want something super heavy on a light kids rifle.

in the >$700 ish range, Optika6 line (Meopta) or Pst gen 2 (vortex), Burris RT 3-15.. will all be very close and are good scopes for the $$..and represent the sweet spot for quality without over-paying vs. overpaying for similar (same) perfomance..and never a need to "upgrade"

Everyone on the Hunttalk forum has purchased from this guy. He always has a great deal. My Meopta Optika6 was $450 a year ago. Ask him what he’d put on that rifle.

Hawke Vantage 3-9x40 $169
FREE shipping and NO taxes from Doug at CameraLand NY. I've bought thousands of $$$$ of glass from Doug since 1985 and never had a bad experience.

Meopta Optika6 is the best scope I’ve ever owned, although I killed a lot of deer with my $99 Bushnell, maybe that’s why this one seems so awesome after I swapped them out.

I’d also check out the Vortex line. I upgraded my binoculars and bought one of their rangefinders at the same time on a good package deal at Cabela’s. Great glass.

Meopta seems to be unavailable after they were bought out. Is this incorrect?
