Opinion concerning F&D Board posters....

whose sole existence here is to push their restaurant or product?
Personally, I don't mind if you work at the Taco Shack and simply let people know who you are and what you offer, but I do have a problem with posters pretending they don't have a vested interest and omit that fact. You can tell these people because their posts generally sound like this:
"OMG have you ever gone to the Taco Shack on Essen?! Everything is gr8! The food is gr8! They only use local ingredients and authentic recipes! Their nacho cheese is to die for! They have Happy Hour every day from 3-7, and they have the hottest bartenders in BR! Here is a link to their website! I'm going back 2nite!"
If you want to advertise your place, I'm sure TD could use the income.
Thoughts?

This looks like a shameless plug to me.
"Just wanted to let those who were looking for bottled Andygator know that Fat Tuesday Beverage Market (an extension of New Orleans Original Daquiris) in Covington has it available in single 22 ounce bottles. They also have the new bottles of Abbey Ale and Mardi Gras Bock. They are located on Hwy 21. In addition they have a great selection of imported beers you can buy in mix and match six packs, large selection of liquor, and Daquiris you can buy by the cup or gallon."

The last time I saw something close to that was the guy that was on here constantly asking about the little caesar's opening up at X location and what did people think about their pizza and prices etc.. Then the next day started a topic on the same thing again.

Does it have anything to do with tractor repair and is the mechanic in your avatar available to work on my Kubota?

Ahhh tiegur33.. I didnt see the 1 date thread yesterday. Its pretty obvious when its a new poster raving about the place. And this is one of the only BR food boards I know of.

Yeah, they are pretty easy to spot and usually it is their first post.
On another food board I visit, we know most of the people pretty well and it is very obvious when a pimp shows up and does those little fake ads.
We did have one guy who was swearing he was not related to the restaurant just trying to get the word out, but someone cut and pasted another post from a NOLA blog where he was making a similiar spill but admitted in that one that he was the owner.
I'm like you in that I don't mind if someone like Opie hangs around and participates in the forum and talks about his place when appropriate. We know who he is and he is not trying to hide it. As a matter of fact, I love when chefs/owners are participates on the boards.

Maybe we should fight fire with fire?
"I went to Taco Shack & got the worst food poisoning evar! Our waitress was old and wouldn't stop picking at this oozing sore on her face! The busboy dropped our tortillas on the ground then picked them up and gave them to us! He said that it was okay since he cleaned the floor the night before! The cashier stole my credit card number, and now I owe Best Buy $15,000!"

I work for a restaurant and we advertised on TD for six months. I've been monitoring this board since last June because it's an opportunity to see what people are saying about restaurants in the Baton Rouge area. I don't post because some of you can be vicious in your comments and I didn't want to get into a battle with anyone. I was tempted to tell everyone when we started serving Firefly, since it was such a hot topic for a week or so, but I just posted an ad instead. However, if someone is looking for a place to eat and you own or manage a restaurant that satisfies that need, I don't see why anyone objects to having that restaurant mentioned.

Hmmm advertised for 6 months... DeAngelos?? I dont think anyone has a problem when people come on here and want to find out what people think of their place or seek critism. Overall that only can help in the dining experience. I think people dont like when someone comes on here and plugs thier place shamelessly and denys that they have any connection to that place.

Mom, you'll find this board much more civilized than some of the others, so fear not.
I don't think anyone has a problem with someone mentioning a restaurant here (that's a huge part of this board after all), but we all appreciate transparency.
There's a big difference between someone posting some general info and a greeting and someone posing as a customer who really works there. That's why restaurant reviewers don't work for restaurants and movie reviewers don't work for the studios (legitimate ones, at least).

post the name of your restaurant so we can belittle it.
best regards!

Well, not that I've "outted" myself, I suppose I can feel free to comment. After reading this board daily for six months, I feel as though I know half of you. I shall "fear not" and post.

I don't see a problem with it for the most part and it is good to have owners/managers post. Opie is a regular as is BrokenEgg and until he went back to Irag the owner of Frikkin Chicken. Even the manager of Ambrosia posted a couple of times. Who cares? It's a food board. If it's shameless just forget about it. I for one can tell from the post. I would hope most of you all could as well.
If I ever open my hot dog stand ya'll will never hear the end of it.
And while I'm thinking about it thank you Opie for my 10 croaker certificate. I got it in the mail the other day.
See? Not everyone is shameless.

Hmmm if they serve Firefly and advertised with TD then its either DeAngelos or Chimes. Not sure who else serves it.. Those are relatively safe places although Chimes has gotten to be a bit overrated due to college students living on it and not venturing out. Now if she said she works for Walk Ons.. HOLD ON...
The manager of Ambrosia posted here? I missed that. Hope he/she saw the thread about their service.

That's true about Opie and BrokenEgg and everyone here respects them both. Just judging from what I know about our restaurants, I would suspect that the people who push their establishments shamelessly are likely servers or cooks or other staff that don't have the authority to act as an "official voice" of a particular establishment. But, they are trying to earn brownie points with the boss and get him/her some free publicity, so they post as though they are John Q. Public. Just my thoughts.
