Has anything similar happened to LSU in the last 20 years?

I’m an out of state LSU graduate who enrolled right around the time of when we lost to Troy. As a result my LSU football knowledge is limited in terms of this 21st century. Has anything similar happened to LSU? Like where we were sure we could get a HIGHLY coveted recruit and another team swooped in and stole them? I think this could give people on the board some perspective that even in the pre-NIL days this has happened and we bounced back. It’s always been about money let’s be real, LSU has a huge brand and is a top 7-8 program in terms of NIL imo. No need to freak out. I’ll admit it will be difficult to sneak into the playoffs when max 3 teams from SEC will make it in. I feel like these spots could be firmly held by Texas, Georgia, Bama for the foreseeable future unless they change the structure. But we should be relevant and have a shot some years, not suck the way we do now. This is our new reality until they implement a salary cap/revenue sharing model.

I thought about this last night. This is exactly how the Perrilloux situation played out, but in our favor as a LA kid.

It’s gone both ways with us losing a recruit and gaining a recruit at the 11th hour going back before I was alive and I am about to turn 62. File it under shite happens especially in football recruiting.

I don't remember if he was really ever committed to us are not but the loss of Landon Collins and especially losing him to our bitter rivalry Alabama seems to me to be a little worse just my 2 cents worth.

It was more than 20 years ago, but John David Crow had signed a letter of intent with LSU when Bear Bryant came along and hustled him off to aTm where he won the Heisman Trophy.

Along with the freakout and the "fire every coach" stupidity.

You are correct about Dylan Moses I forgot he was actually committed to us till Les miles was let go and then Saban came in and got him good point. I don't follow LSU recruiting like I used to way back in the day but definitely this is not the first time this has happened especially now that this NIL is so prevalent and I'm certain it will not be the last time. and we may even get our share of flips come our way.

Patrick Surtain situation feels very similar. Big name dude that kept saying LSU LSU LSU with rumors about Bama swirling around the entire process. On NSD Tiger fans felt good but then he signed with Bama. Tiger Fans had a similar meltdown when Joe McNight signed with USC. This melt is pretty epic though.
