Dear St. George peeps - please vote in favor of the 2% tax on the December ballot

THIS IS NOT A NEW TAX!!!!
This merely codifies/allocates 2% of the sales taxes collected within the corporate limits of the City of St. George to go to the City of St. George for its operations.
You would still pay 6% above the state sales tax, but now a third of that would go to St.G.

It absolutely is a new tax since it doesn’t exist currently.

Before this vote, people in St.G. will pay a 6% city/parish tax on top of state sales tax.
After this vote, people making purchases in St.G. will pay a 6% city/parish tax on top of stae sales tax.
I bet you thought there would be fewer people in East Baton Rouge Parish the day after the Supreme Court ruled.

Just so I am clear, the people against this believe that those who live in St. George should intentionally NOT reallocate tax monies to fund their own city (with ZERO CHANGE in the total sales taxes) but to actually continue to give that money to the City of Baton Rouge?
Yeah. I see Better Together and Together BR are still the same fricking retards they've always been.

Well this is false. The tax is already paid. The tax transfer would ensure that the current 2% sales tax revenue collected in St. George stays here to fund essential city services.

Shall the City of St. George City be authorized pursuant to La. Const. Art. VI, Section 29(B) to levy and collect a perpetual tax of 2% upon the sale at retail, the use, the lease or rental, the distribution, the consumption, and the storage for use or consumption of tangible personal property, and on sales of services, as presently defined in and subject to the tax exemptions in Chapter 2 of Subtitle II of Title 47 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes beginning on April 1, 2025 in the City of St. George ("Tax") to replace the 2% sales and use tax previously levied by the Consolidated Government for the City of Baton Rouge and Parish of East Baton Rouge with the proceeds of the Tax to be used for general municipal purposes within the City of St. George including but not limited to, acquiring, constructing, improving and maintaining public works with an estimated annual collection of $48,000,000 and shall the proceeds of the Tax be subject to funding into bonds as authorized by law?

They are. They intentionally misled people to think it’s a new tax. They even had the help of the news as well - although the news has now backed off of saying it’s a new tax.
Anyone who voted for St George should be for this. It’s to give St George its own money instead of having to beg EBR for their own money.

I plan to - but for reasons unknow, it's very quiet. You would think for as detrimentally important it is to the area, there would be a little louder of a push.

If you don’t then you have a city with no money.

We already pay this 6% now and we will continue to pay the 6% no matter what happens in the election.

Are we expecting St. George to have a booming tourism industry?

None of that refutes that this tax is not new. You are correct that the total local tax will remain at 6%, therefore it’s not a tax INCREASE. It is new since the 2% tax going to St. George doesn’t exist currently. 2% is going away and being replaced by another 2%. It’s not that hard to understand.

If it was a new tax it would be against the Louisiana Constitution. It’s not a new tax.

Never vote for a new tax. Make them crooks use the money they have better. Demand reallocation of funds.
