The late Greg " The Cookie Man" Cook was a rugged raw boned physical player with very little finesse but a fearless and feared rim protector with the sharpest
" bows" in the league. No doubt would have led the country in flagrants if that rule was in place then.

Every team needs a Greg Cook.

Best Cookie Man story. (Remembering that there was no ESPN or live broadcast of most college basketball… definitely not the LSU vs Tennessee game) in his sophomore or junior season, the tigers were playing the vols in Baton Rouge. During most of the first half, the vols big center was really banging on Greg Cook and anyone else near the paint. Cookie was obviously pissed after being called to a couple of questionable fouls in response.
So, just after the horn blows to end the first half, as the teams were clearing the floor, the Cookie Man hits the guy in the face, and keeps walking, as the guy drops. The refs never saw what happened…
Greg Cook was the greatest enforcer LSU has ever had and was a huge part of the relearns success in the 1980-81 season.
GEAUX TIGERS!!!

Cookie man is one of my all-time favorite Tigers. Had a hell of a fun time with him up in Philly. RIP my friend

Rudy Macklin and Greg Cook wer the cornerstones of the Fantastic Climb to the Top. That class also included Jordy Hultberg, Walter Davis and Rick Mattick. The next class included Dewayne The Astronaut Scales, Ethan Martin, Willie Sims and transfer Al Green and Tigers to the Top was underway. These players stayed 3 to 4 years and the connection withthe fans as they grew and developed was special. The AC was poacked, students ringing the concourse and incredible games against big time schools.

That's why I shake my head when people say "Who cares? LSU is not a basketball school." It very much was at one point. The Deaf Dome was real! Dale was a showman and it was a much tougher ticket to get in the AC than it was across the street in Tiger Stadium.
I promise you. LSU fans want to support basketball again. It's just going to take sustained success. But this BS about LSU never being a "basketball school" is just that. BS! I've seen that sentiment be completely false.

LOL. We have 4 of the greatest bball players o fall time. We can absolutely be a basketball school. Wade may have gotten us there but Mcmahon is showing signs he may be able to do it also. Time to start supporting this team!!

Chest is a natural rebounder, great instincts and effort!
He reminded me of Dennis Rodman.

Many people don't realize LSU has the secon most SEC titles behind only Kentucky. Until Billy Donovan took Florida to two national titles the Tigers were also the SEC's most accomplished national program behind Kentucky. Consistency has been an issue since Dale's run from 1979 through 1993. TMacklin's broken finger in 1981 ma have cost them the championship. Then John Williams hand injury in 1986 was a factor despite getting to the
Final Four. I have often wondered how the 1991 team with Shaq would have fared had Mike Hansen been healthy in the post season. He got mono and just never regained his strength , The most disappointing of all was 1986 when they were headed to a Final Four in New Orleans until the fiasco with Bobby Knight pounding the scorers table and not getting a technical and intimidating officials the rest of the way.
