Imo Dj Pickett and Kade Phillips have a great chances to be day 1 starters. They’re gonna walk into the cb room as the most physically gifted athletes. Their length and athleticism will be too hard to keep off the field imo. If both guys do come in ready to play day 1 where do y’all think that leaves stamps? Imo I think moving stamps to the slot next year if both Pickett /Phillips are ready makes the most sense what’s yall think ?

Maybe but not until game 3. In game 1 the starters will be stamps and woodland until they massively fail and then they will start the freshman and everyone will wonder why they weren't starting from the get go. Its the Kelly way.

Honestly, putting 2 true freshmen corners as your starters seems like a terrible idea.

Sadly you could be right lol but imo Pickett is a lock to start day 1. Shea Dixon has said multiple times that dj Pickett will be a day 1 starter. If Phillips doesn’t also start day 1 it’ll be Pickett and stamps with woodland playing the slot. Pickett is too good to keep off the field. Even Kelly had to start Will Campbell from day 1 cause he was by far our best tackle

PJ Woodland will be a starting corner next year. He's going to be an NFL CB one day.

I would be beyond shocked if we started 2 true freshmen at corner next season. That just doesnt happen

I think woodland will play the slot. He’s already played a bunch of his reps from the slot this year. He has the athleticism and foot speed to be a great nickel

Derek Stingley started opposite of Fulton who was a 4th year guy at that point.

Kary Vincent was also the starting nickel who was a 3rd year guy.

Our safeties were Stevens and Delpit, 2 3rd year guys.

It was a very veteran secondary outside of Stingley...and Stingley was kind of a once a generation type of corner, especially that season as a freshman.

Woodland has played grand majority of snaps at outside corner, not nickel. In Baker's defense the STAR position is effectively your nickel which is a safety generally speaking.

When the other team goes to 4 WR looks thats when we'd bring in effectively a dime back to cover them in the slot

Sure but that was before zy was healthy. Ever since zy got healthy it’d been zy and stamps on the outside. On obvious pass downs baker often brings woodland to cover the inside slot wide receiver. Yea it is mostly in some packages I guess my point is woodland has the most experience between him and stamps at covering the slot.

Yeah as a dime back, not nickel, since we effectively always have a nickel on the field as the STAR position.

Since Zy came back Woodlands snaps have decreased dramatically as he is more that extra DB we throw on the field in 4-5 WR looks.

He only played 4 snaps against Bama and 5 against A&M.

Fair point. And I’m high on woodland I think he’ll be a damn good player for us. I just think you can’t keep Pickett off the field from day 1. For years we been waiting on LSU to get back to having stud corners /safeties. Pickett is your most physically gifted corner since Derek Stingley. As much as stamps has improved and as much as woodland as shown promise Pickett is manning one of those boundary spots from day 1.

I will say I'm way more concerned about Safety/STAR positions next year. Flat out we cannot win consistently with the group of 3 that have played the majority of the snaps there this year. They just make way too many mistakes and give up way too many big plays. We need to replace probably at least 2 of them.

Corner play has been really good this year, I dont see Stamps taking a backseat personally. The other spot will obviously be up for grabs.

I wish Baker would just modify his defense and have a nickel in place of his STAR because it plays to our strengths so much more with what we have...we are going to have to portal in at least 2 safeties to even give us a chance there. I think we can live with Sage Ryan, but Gilbert and Burns just have been huge issues all season long. IF you can replace one of those (Burns) with more a nickel than S it would alone be a big help

Def agree. The safety/star spots has to get better it isn’t sec caliber rn. Need spears to take the next step and man one of those safety spots he has a ton of talent and we prob need to jump into the portal for a FS or give Kylin Jackson a shot there. Imo toviano needs to be the star he had the perfect body type to thrive there

I would be tampering the heck out of Derek Williams right now to come back home, give him whatever Texas is paying plus more. Thats who need in the secondary. He's been injured most of this season so he'd be listening I'm sure.

Jacoby Matthews is another guy I hope we take a look at. Either Matthews or Williams are plug n play impact guys.

From what I understand they (Were)/are working on him, he's supposed to be at a JUCO so it's really just a question surrounding grades seems like
