Brian Kelly will be fine and needs time

CFB is a week to week sport for opinions and vibes around the program. I’d advise us fans not to become a prisoner of the moment when talking about the future of our program and the CBK era.
Simply put. LSU does not have the guys to win 11-12 games yet. They just don’t. Their interior DL and Secondary is completely outmatched talent wise week in and week out. When in the SEC, it is incredibly hard to mask talent deficiency and we have seen that over the last 6 quarters of LSU football. We are unable to defend against a dual threat QB. We do not have the personnel.
Basically what I am getting at is this is just as much, if not MORE of a personnel problem rather than a coaching problem.
Well how do we fix this one might ask? RECRUIT
Some people our complaining about QB play? We have the #1 QB in the nation coming to LSU
Some people are complaining about DB play? We have the #2 and #8 CBs in the country coming in along with a few safeties in the top 30
We are ADDRESSING these talent issues through recruiting. I firmly believe in this staff to get the talent level up to par with the top SEC teams (Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Ole Miss etc…)
I would really like Brian Kelly and staff to hit the portal harder than he has in previous years this offseason to get some IMMEDIATE help for next year that we will need. To be honest are probably looking down the barrel of another 8-10 win season next year with the current state of this roster.
I have no doubt in my mind we will have a playoff ready roster by 2026 and a championship level roster by 27-28 and into the future. I am still bought into Brian Kelly’s future here at LSU.
FWIW:
Win out, Georgia beats Tenn, Arky beats Texas or Mizzou LSU is in the SEC title game
I’m not giving up on this season yet. (We are cooked)

Three years in and with the portal. How many years does Kelly need?

I agree with majority of your points but 8 wins damn sure isn’t good enough next year. I know the team will be younger next year but BK has got to make the playoffs next year 2 striaght non playoff appearances in the 12 team era would be unacceptable. Despite the youth we will be more athletic at lb and CB, deeper at RB and should be more talented at DL if McKinley /breaux continues to progress and you add Stewart.
You gotta go to the portal to add an experience wr to pair with the young room, add an experienced impactful interior d-lineman, and add a safety in the portal who has sec athleticism.

Let’s check back in ten years. lol. He is not an SEC caliber coach.

I agree.
Fans here seem to focus on the gameday stuff when the real issue is probably talent, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
Hopefully the new defensive staff can start addressing those issues sooner rather than later.

How many years do we need to recruit enough to overcome "Coach O"....
Seems with the portal, we should have a good base of talent.
They got boat raced Saturday night.... check that, LSU did not even show up.

Does he need a 4 year or a 5 year probationary period?
Just curious.
Just curious.

5 years. Do you remember what O left us with? That was maybe the worst roster in the SEC West when Kelly took the job. Not even lying. We were 11-12 in 2020 and 2021 combined. We won almost the same amount of games in Kelly’s first year in 2022.

Kelly almost won the SEC in his first year with that talent then has gone backwards since then with better talent.

How has he went backwards?
He had two SEC losses in 2021 and an OOC loss, same as this year.
Same as last year.

We had a Heisman level QB. Who is now top 7-10 in the NFL. We will have that again soon in underwood

Its inexcusable that in year 3, in the era of NIL and the portal, that the talent level is still so bad. Either BK is recruiting and chasing the wrong players in the portal or the staff cannot coach them up.

You can get a piece here and there but this narrative that you can get upper echelon SEC caliber starters in the portal just isn't true.
You get guys like Major Burns who were overrated in high school and couldn't see the field at their prior stop, guys like JK Johnson.
You get guys like Kyren Lacy and Zy Alexander who were a little underrated in high school and can be good players, but aren't elite level starters.
You get guys like Duce Chestnut and Denver Harris who are problems.
Then every once in awhile you get a real, high caliber starter like Walter Nolen. That's very rare though.

This isn't the NFL. So he needs so much time that any good talent he got in years 1 and 2 would be gone already?
I can only imagine you're old. This isn't how this works anymore. There are coaches coming in all around Kelly doing better. If South Carolina didn't lose their qb against us, they would have thumped us.
It's inexcusable.

He's been here 3 years and now there's a portal. We shouldn't be getting blown out at home vs a two loss bama team. What will be your excuse next year if we suck?
Posted on 11/12/24 at 12:34 pm to Phillytiger9
He’s had three years.

You kidding me? Coaches that have done a better job as far as the direction of their program?
Cugnatti
Beamer
Kiffin
Heupel
Sarkisian
DeBoer
Elko
That's mostly just SEC. Doesn't even include, Lanning and other big name coaches.
BK lost to freaking Riley this year and Norvell twice. PRIME is going to sniff the playoffs before us.
Yall better wake up.
Posted on 11/12/24 at 12:38 pm to SidewalkTiger
Sarkisian and Lanning for sure. Huepel is certainly better right now. I’m sure there are more I’m not remembering.

OP sounds like someone who will be perpetually in middle management
