Took over a solid USC program after John McKay left for the NFL and led them to a share of the 1978 national title. Likely would have split the the national championship a second time with Alabama in '79 if not for tying unranked Stanford at home.

I remember when he got taken out on the sideline by a collision in the 2020 Bama LSU game.

My first memory of the NFL is John Robinson coaching the Rams.

My greatest football memory will always be 2019, John Robinson was apart of that LSU season.

In his honor..... He can claim titles like Alabama in death.

quote:

The 1979 USC team was named national champion by the College Football Researchers Association, an NCAA-designated major selector.[

He brought USC back in the mid-90s winning the Rose Bowl.

True story, was walking past Tommy Trojan towards the bookstore and there's John Robinson walking by with someone and nobody bats an eye, no celebrity and some really fat student walks by us and Robinson turns to his cohort and says " Jesus,...and I thought I was fat.". And he laughed. He was a regular funny guy on campus.

Great coach. He and Madden were lifelong friends.

I loved having him here at LSU. Seeing him on our sidelines was just something cool.

RIP. Ran the infamous 47 Gap running play with Eric Dickerson over and over, that led to him running for over 2k yards in his second season. He was a good coach.

He coached 5 NFL HOFers in a few years ( in College) think about that.

Robinson was a great coach, but you don't have to be a genius to run 47 Gap when you have Eric Dickerson

If Football Research counts then I guess Alabama has a threepeat from 77-79 as they awarded us their national championship for the 1977 season. However, we don't claim '77 and USC doesn't claim '79.
